Forums - General Discussion - Console / PC Heat

In my home (my parents :( ) we have central air conditioning.  My room faces the sun most of the day, and its summer here (Southern Ohio).  Well to make a long story even longer, its has gotten to the point that even if I don't run any electronics my room is very hot.  If I run my laptop while I'm at work, or if I play 360, PS3 or Wii even if the computer is off, it only makes the room even hotter.  Does anyone else have issues with heat from electronics increasing the ambient temperature in a small room?  Should I consider my own window air conditioning unit?

I must apologize again for my outburst the other day.  I really enjoy reading peoples comments here even if I don't always agree with them.

Put some curtains in your room. That should lower the temperature. Here, in Puerto Rico, it gets really hot. I usually have two small fans cooling just my room. I only use the air conditioner at night.

I'd say curtains/shades are the way to go. It will help significantly.

Thanks DonWii, I have light curtains covering a solid blind. It might be more of the heat building on the outside radiating into the house. And it doesn't help my dad turns the thermostat up to like 78 when its 97 out (like today).

I used to have an old, loaned PC in my room as my main PC. It was one of those with some of the first Pentium 4, Rambus RAM, etc... and if you sum that to a CRT monitor, it used to get very hot.

Here in my city we have average temperatures of 100 °F at day and 90 °F. Window air conditioners really help here, they cool down even the hottest room, but be sure to get the right one according to the size of your room.

Try investing in a personal fan. You can get them for as low as $20. They help a lot.

Cool, I tried buying a window unit once but my Dad made me take it back. I will have to issue an ultimatum, either stop turning the thermostat to 78 when its hot out, or put up with me getting a window unit!

^Also good, if you can afford it. Those things use up a lot of electricity. Then again, if you are not paying for it... hehehe.

P.S. My parents house is always kept at 80 F. I guess I am used to hotter weather.

Sounds like it's just a bedroom. You should be able to pick up a window a/c for pretty cheap and totally worth it.

GO BUCKEYES!

And he gets you kicked out of your house XD

As DonWii said, window air conditioners use loads of electricity, so if you are willing to pay for it, then go ahead, but as I said, be sure to get the one suited for the size of your room, so you save electricity, as a smaller unit needs more power to cool a big room, compared to a big unit.
