Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Eternal Sonata Screens or What Great Cel Shaded Graphics Look Like (no 56k)

This looks fantastic, I heard Bleach for the Wii looks great and so does Naruto for the 360.

"I could make Halo. It's not that I couldn't design that game. It's just that I choose not to. One thing about my game design is that I never try to look for what people want and then try to make that game design." - Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto

There is a rumor that this will go to the PS3 as well.

I already pre-ordered. I just hope the music-cenetric ness doesn't annoy after a while.

What 360 game isn't rumored to be on the PS3 and vice versa?  Pretty much just the ones that are first party or comfirmed to already be on both platforms.

First party are the only exclusives that ps3 or 360 will receive.

This game can be made on to the wii, it doesnt look like it takes much power to produce those textures and graphics.

It is turn based but a lot more active than most turn based combat systems in these kinds of games. You basically have a limited time to do stuff and you can launch multiple attacks and moves per turn. Also you actually move around when it's your turn and that effects what attacks you do. So it's not just you click a menu option and the character carries it out.

Moves and actions are hotkeyed to the 4 letter buttons on the 360 controller and you carry them out in real time, once you get your turn. So it's a turn based RPG where you carry out multiple real time attacks per turn.

Also, the enemy attacks are timed and you get a signal that you should press the B button to block attacks and if you do it properly you can block a lot of attacks but if you mistime it a lot you will be hit more.

I love the combat system in the game honestly, one of the best I've seen in a JRPG and really makes it fun to play and kills the possibility of getting bored of the regular enemy fights. Reall unique combat system and very original.

That sounds like a lot of fun.  I just might have to check it out someday when I finally get a 360.

This game looks great! Is the demo on XBL yet? I looked but didn't see it, but someone mentioned playing the demo so I'm hoping I just missed it somehow.

LOL...  Umm what are the big rpgs coming to the Wii this Christmas anyways?

ckmlb - it's better, but apart from the resolution it's nowhere near the same difference as the more realistic graphics. That said with the cell-shaded cartoon style an increased resolution really does make it look a lot better faster.

Again...we can stop with the 56k warnings...there's no point.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

leo-j - if you can do these graphics on the Wii, why didn't Namco make it for the Wii instead?

Stop saying everything can go on the Wii. It gets very, very tiring and annoying. If a game can be graphically equal on the Wii, then by all means, make it on the Wii. Unfortunately, you cannot. It's not do-able. I've never seen a single Wii title that looks remotely as graphical as any major X360 title. Just face it: since the X360 has about 10x the Wii's hardware abilities, it just *might* be able to do things the Wii cannot. This isn't bashing the Wii, it has some good graphics, but only compared to last-gen. Comparing a system that has a 800mhz processor to one that has 3, 3.2ghz is just insane, and stupidity on your part.

Until I see a Wii game do Gears of War graphics, you haven't convinced me. Likewise, there are no cell shaded Wii games that have been made that have come close to IdolM@ster or Trusty Bell. I am sure they'll come out with some very good looking ones, but not as good as Trusty Bell.

And again, why not compare HD videos at 720p versus the Wii's 480i and try to judge then. It's entirely fair, since one of the reasons the Wii can't export to 720p like the X360 is because the hardware just can't do it.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

leo-j is just mad because it hasn't been announced for the PS3.

I agree with you: I've never seen cel-shading this good (they look like high-res artwork in the screenshots, lol) and I doubt the Wii can produce these kind of graphics. Similar, maybe, but not the same (and not 720p). I think the reason this looks so good is because of the high number of polygons, kinda hidden by the fact that it's cel-shaded (possibly, I don't really know) and I don't think the Wii could handle that.

This game is on a completely different level than Wind Waker, and Nintendo would find it VERY difficult to reproduce these graphics on the Wii. Like I said, something similar maybe, but not this detailed, and it would take alot more work to squeeze enough power from the Wii. Still, Wii will have its fair share of beautiful games. But there's a reason this is coming to 360, not Wii or PS2.
