Forums - Sony Discussion - Brave Story 1UP Review...Best RPG on the PSP Ever!

I wrote a hands on for a game magazine back then with the Japanese release and to me the game looked like one of the most promising RPG games on the PSP. To me, the game has a sort of kingdom hearts atmosphere with dragon quest alike system. Game is one of my most favorite PSP games and have quite a few already :D
Jeanne d'Arc is also a pretty solid game! Typical Level 5 atmosphere with cel-shaded GFX and perfect strategy battle system.

So you've played both? Which one would you say is better? According to 1up/EGM, Brave Story is better but I think elsewhere Jeanne D'Arc is considered a much bigger release.

I'm really interested in both and will probably end up getting both, but Jeanne D'Arc I knew about months ago and was waiting for (Cause it's Level 5), this game I didn't see coming until it was released already.

One thing that's really interesting is that this was published by Sony in Japan, but by XSeed here... no faith in US sales for this game it appears.

Also, the developers (Game Republic) are the same guys that made Genji and Folklore on the PS3. Genji got generally mediocre reviews, but wow does it look beutiful. Folklore looks beautiful too and I hope gets good reviews, this game looks like another great looking game aesthetically, especially for a PSP game.

Doh! my mistake :P I'm downloading Blade Storm :P hehe sorry. Anyways :P Brave Story looks good. I might look into it for my psp.

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to play this game. It is in Japanese so that's not helping either lol...

I just go around killing lots of people and it keeps repeating the same mission so I'm guessing I'm missing something :P

*Wonders if PSP FFs do well*

Course FF 1 and FF 2 won't do well b/c its the 3rd remake. Prolly at 100k LTD for FF1. 75k LTD for FF2.

However, I expect a lot FFt: War of the Lions, Dissidia, and Crisis Core.

But, yes. I am going to probably be picking this if it gets a 7.5 or higher on GS. (im on the fence on this one and my local Blockbuster won't have it.)

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Finally, a PSP RPG I can sink my teeth into...

@ckmlb, that's kind of difficult to say, as Brave Story is a turn based RPG game, battles followed by random encounters and Jeanne d'Arc is a turn based strategy RPG game. I like the both of them. Jeanne d'Arc follows sort of the history of Jeanne with fiction included, with cell shaded graphics and Anime animation movies in between. Jeanne d'Arc has a few tricks in the battle system which makes it so nice to play, such as the Burning Site (extra powerful attacks), connection guard (linking different characters together for more defense) and the counter attacks. Brave Story I feel like it looks a bit like Kingdom Hearts, considering the certain characters in the game and slightly the story, plus combined with the system which is kind of familiar with Dragon Quest VIII. I recommend both as they're different from each other and if I'm not mistaken Jeanne d'Arc is not all too expensive in the US. It depends on what you like but if you like turn based RPG as well turn based Strategy games, I'd say... don't miss both of them!!! It's so far 2 of the best RPG's you'll get which are new and exclusive for the PSP. Both Japanese versions had great voice actings, don't know about the US versions though...

Both are typical Japanese RPG games. Although Brave Story feels that somewhat more considering the plot in the game.

Edit: Check gamerankings by the way. Brave Story has now a average score of 82% and Jeanne d'Arc almost the same with 83% although that game hasn't been released yet...
