Forums - Sales Discussion - Place your bets - when will Wii pass 360?

It has already passed the 360...like I said so long ago.

VGChartz will display the results of the July surpassing next week at August 8th.

Mario Strikers Charged in North America will be the title which pushes the extra firepower that make the charts match.

Next bet is when will it pass 360 in North America?

I'll admit that I pushed the superfluous stipulation of July in NA too hard so I admit that error. I threw that in there without any real thought as an added stipulation to my original prediction on Wii Vs. 360 in North America.

Stripping away the added stipulation I always said Wii passes 360 in the summer.

I count official summer as summer which ends September 22. Fall/Autumn begins Sept. 23.

Madden will give 360 tremendous boosts as will Halo 3 but Wii also has a formidable lineup as production buildup starts showing its strength as they prepare for the Holidays.

There's a little under 2 months for calls to be made on this and after that prediction of mine comes true also prepare for the big one.

Year-end sales.

AT LEAST 20 Million Worldwide. Best case scenario: 24 Million Worldwide. For Wii.

For XBox 360- within 13 million range high or low. They will not be able to quite break 14 million before year's end.

For PS3- being VERY generous, just over 7 million at BEST case scenario.

I think it will pass on week ending the 19th, but it will really pass it on the 16th as the $50 drop won't be enough to boost X360 sales enough to make a big impact till Halo 3.

"..just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake"

John Lucas,

U will eat a crow for the 20M wwfor Wii.
I dont believe it.

Time to Work !

I can't believe you haven't given up your July prediction yet, John Lucas. There are 2/3 days left of sales in July, and the gap is almost half a million now.

I give you credit for almost getting it right, but your current insistence takes away from that credit. Basically you're devaluing your other predictions by insisting so much on an impossible one. Therefore, don't be surprised if people start ignoring your predictions from now on.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

week ending aug 26th

Around the Network

August 12

If the current figures are for July 28 (instead of projected sales of "today"), then Aug 5 will be VERY close, but just miss overcoming the 360. With the Wii selling 300k+ a week, it's hard to imagine Wii not passing the 360 in 1.5 wks (Aug 12)

PS: John, once again, your year end projects are high, tho no completely ridiculous.  I'd estimate that there is a 5% chance that Wii will hit 20M.  My projection run between 16.5-19.5.  I'll be surprised if it lands more than .5 out of that range and shocked if it lands more than 1.5M out of that.

John do you believe Nintendo is stockpiling?

 And possibly less of a fanboy...

@Shams,

Yeah I saw your numbers a while back and irc I agreed with them then too.  I was just trying to give an update to the detailed numbers situation for those who weren't aware. I think my original prediction was something along the lines of Aug 12 even though it will most likely by Aug 19th.

@JohnLucas,

If nothing else I have to admire your boldness lol.  I hope you are correct about the Strikers Boost but I really just don't see it having that big of an impact in the US. And for your X-mas numbers, that is just insane! Seriously! Some of the projections I have done where I put best case scenario had the Wii selling like 4.5m in Dec and it was still only 19.5m at year's end. I'm not going to say it is impossible, because I think you were much closer to this prediction than anyone thought possible.  So I will just ask you what you think sales will be like over |--Aug-->Dec --|?

To Each Man, Responsibility

ohh i am gonna be so close in my predictions for this year. :)
