Forums - Sales Discussion - Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - 61,166 first week in NA

Much lower than I expected. Would have thought it would have sold more in the U.S its first week than in Japan.(ToS sold more in the US) I wonder what made the first game so popular that isn't present in this one.

Pretty poor, IMO, considering the userbase. Not to say that JRPG's are fairing any better on the other consoles in America. They are flopping left and right.

The JRPG genre is definitely dying, which is sad, since it is one of my favorites. At least it is doing alright on handhelds.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Thats terrble imo, i mean COME ON look at how many Wii owners there are!

No wonder Square is biased against the Wii. no offence but i expected ToS2 to drop atleast 700k day 1.

@ Soriku, what is your avatar from?

Arc Rise Fantasia, an upcoming Wii game.

ToS2 should make it to 500k if it's released in Europe too.

 Thanks.

So soriku do you think there is a chance that I'll be a million seller?

Well, I'd buy you, so that's at least one sale.

Great news for TOS. My best friend is absolutely obsessed with the first TOS and this new one, and here I have yet to play either of them... maybe I should pick up the original and play through both?

True story,

I bought a copy of Tales of Destiny back in 1998 at Best Buy. I took it home and it did not play in my playstation (even upside down with books on top), so I tried to return it and since it was opened, they would not give my money back, only a copy of the same game. After two additional copies (that didnt work) I vowed not to play a tales game again and haven't since.

Man I'm just full of good calls. Said it would have FE: Radiant Dawn like numbers and it opens to about what FE opened to in America.

Anyways I hope this has better legs than FE but if not we are looking at about 350k-400k in America which is decent but its doubtful it'll sell another 400k or so in E/O to go plat.

But I hope this does really well. After about an hour play through I was highly disappointed as I was telling Outlaw there, but after further play into it I'm pretty damn hooked just like the first one. I think it's just the characters that have got me hooked haha. Love the characters haha.
