This week isn't really that important guys.

Next week we get Animal Crossing (Wii), Chrono Trigger (DS), the Gundam v Gundam PSP bundle, and Last Remnant on 360.

Its going to be telling.

Whether PSP can return above DSi will determine which system is best selling in Japan in 2008 because the rest of 2008 will follow next week. Both are going to be up substantially given that they'll have new games topping 150k.

Animal Crossing is looking pretty big. Already looks like a bigger debut than Mario Galaxy. Wii has been slowly trending up anyway, so it should get a 20k boost or something.

Chrono Trigger...No idea on that one. It had a huge debut on SNES...ages ago. But then again Kirby Superstar debuted almost identically on DS and SNES despite a decade + gap in time. Chrono Trigger did 2m on SNES though.

Last Remnant should push 360 back into the 10,000+ range, and probably near or aboe PS3....the game itself will probably hit somewhere in the high five digit range.

I am surprised at how quick DS sales are falling back. I would have expected DSi to remain above 100k for at least another week. Seems that Nintendo is not going to get back its 100k+ weekly sales after all. They probably would have seen better sales with a price cut for DSLite in my opinion.

I hope you realise 100k per week in Japan is frankly an astonishing number, the DS is a marvel to have managed consistant sales in Japan above 100k (in fact many weeks above 150k)

Apart from launch and Christmas/New Year boosts.... the PS2 only managed 7 weeks above 100k, That's the PS2, and just 7 weeks

I think people seem to assume that Japan is somehow an equal market to Americas or Europe, but it's not... it's much smaller and has been for a while because it had less scope for increase, in the same way that Europe will eventually become a bigger market than North America. (And if a few things are worked out/stamped out, Asia may then become bigger than Europe)

^The source is right. Next week will be a major one, christmas is coming in japan also.

@Jo21: Cuz the 360 definitely didn't win in Others this week, right?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

For sony to take back the US they would need
1. Price cut
2. Blu ray price cuts (on discs)
3. GT5
4. better commercials,

Great sales for Ds all other are good.

In order or priority (Price cut would be highest):
- Advertise heavily-AAA exclusive gamesSony needs exclusive AAA games and they need to advertise them and shove them down people's throat, you wanna play the awesome Killzone 2, buy a PS3, want GT5, buy a PS3, you know stuff MS has done over the past 3 years.
-Slim modelThe slim model would also help a lot as the PS3 is so gigantic, a smaller model would be more attractive to the consumer. This would probably only come with a price drop though.

-Software Emulation BC for PS2 gamesBC for PS2 games would help a lot, I can't tell how many people have asked me if they can play PS2 games if they buy a PS3
-Make PSN betterPSN has made great strides and is a LOT better than before, but it still is behind Live, not only should Sony try to match Live on certain stuff (more movies, TV shows and games, cross game voice chat, chat and demo on pretty much every game, PS2 games on the store, etc) but they should try to do stuff that Live doesn't have like a Music store with MP3s and music videos for sale.
- More bundlesThe 360 has a great bundle every Holiday season, last year it was Forza 2 and Marvel UA, this year it's Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones, Sony has an Uncharted bundle which is cool, but they should've had a family bundle with LBP or Ratchet, a TDK Blu Ray bundle, a Resistance 2 bundle or something, just add more value to the box, so the customer will feel more likely to buy it.

Basically what we have now is the 360 is the cool videogame to own in NA (that belonged to the PS2) and the Wii has just expanded the videogame market (which is a great thing as shown by the amount of money in Nintendo's pocket, but  Nintendo fanboys don't like that for some reason)

Not sure where you got that from.  It's the Wii-haters that always cry gloom and doom and 'teh casualz will destroy video gaming!' etc.

OT: Looks like the Wii will have sexy numbers WW again.
