Forums - Sales Discussion - Will the PS3 hit 3 million in Japan by the end of 2008?

Right now the PS3 is at 2.47 million in Japan so it has to less 530,000 in the next 7 weeks, last year in 2007 the PS3 sold 405,000 from November 10 - December 29, and also we can't forget about White Knight Chronicles is releasing on December 25.

So I would have to say that it should be able to reach 3 million by the end of 2008.

Any other opinions?

You should congratulate me. I destroyed the vile red falcon and saved the universe. I consider myself a hero.

No, that would be an average of 75, 000 - that will not happen.

It should reach around 2.75 million, a nice recovery in the last part of the year.

Last year PS3 had big price drop, new colours, GT5:P, and Winning Eleven. This year all it has is a larger HDD and the now one year old GT5:P bundled. Winning Eleven should give another hardware boost this year as the PS2 version is delayed until next year, but I doubt it will give as large a boost as it did last year. A new IP which we don't even know if it's any good or not yet can't be relied upon to be as big a hardware mover as GT5:P was last year.

So basically, PS3 had a lot more going for it last year than this year.

The video store is something else the PS3 going for it this year as it's the first of its kind in Japan (AFAIK the XBL Video marketplace is unavailable in Japan), and also GT5P Spec III is being included as a bundle on every PS3 there I think.....but you're right the PS3 did have a lot more going for it last year.
