mmmm, i don't think it goes as far as sink or swim. It is important of course, but the closer that BR players get in price to DVD players, the faster it will be adopted.

People are afraid that they will lose their jobs so I doubt they will spend much for Blu-Ray and we're passed the early adopter phase for Blu-Ray.
How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...
why, because hddvd was cheap? need i remind you the only reason is was cheap was because of blu ray.
I got a free Blu-Ray player with my new TV ($300 value thanks to a $100 sale on the player and a $200 off deal on the bundle).

It is good for Sony when component costs of Blu-Ray players drop, as the PS3 production costs should drop as well. It is good for Sony when Blu-Ray increases in market share, as players become cheaper. It is bad for Sony when a 360 + Blu-Ray player cost less than a PS3. |
I think the last point if true at some point may not be bad for Sony at all. Technically the PS3 will still have the advantage if 360 games will not take advantage of Blu-Ray advantages (up to 50 GB storage and scratch resistant discs) and the 360 does not support things like 7.1 lossless audio or HDMI 1.3 and maybe the latest Blu-Ray standards (which requires storage).
And it's so much more elegant to have an all-in-one solution, instead of a big power brick, rigid cabling, a console, an external Blu-Ray player and maybe other external upgrades like Wi-Fi. I think Sony wouldn't mind if former 360 HD DVD advocates would buy a Blu-Ray addon to replace their HD DVD drives.

Good point but I guess Sony benefit from Blu-Ray penetration either way.
