Forums - Sales Discussion - Analysis: First week CoD WaW Wii major flop, Medal of Honor breaks 500k

@mrstickball: Instead of horribly trolling, read my post. I think you may find some answers there.

So that would mean that 3rd party multi-plat games will always perform poorly on the Wii, as per your statement, right? That is, unless your average 'core/hardcore' gamer suddenly buys a Wii, and plays it exclusively.

Of course, that doesn't take into account the exclusive failures such as Zak & Wiki, No More Heroes, and others.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Haven't we all learned by now?

No Wii game is a Day 1 title. >_>

DMJ - Except for Nintendo-backed 'big' games. Which tend to have massive openings like any other system.

And Trestes - Didn't you notice before attacking me of being a troll, I posted once in this thread before UK numbers came out and said "if it didn't sell within 50% of the PS3 version, I'd post in my sig that the Wii can't move 3rd party core games"?

I think the game sold much more than 60.000 worldwide. Wii gamers are probably not the typical online gamers. I'd put the amount of gamers that makes an online acount in the first 3 days at around 1 in 5, which would mean closer to 100.000 first week, which is fine. Wii games have longer legs and I'm sure this game will reach 500k over the holidays.

That's what everyone was saying about Madden Wii, with many claims that it would outsell the PS3 version.  Instead of considering "Wii games have legs" as axiomatic how about we wait and see?

False.

Does that work out to be a double-negative, or was that just crappy editing? You decide!

Huh? He was talking about the ability to sell GOOD 3rd party titles (a positive), and I said false (a negative). How is that then a double-negative?

Read the whole sentence again, mate. Here.

"I would find it to be pretty damning of the Wii as a console that can move good 3rd party games"

I direct your attention to the clause you failed to bold, i.e. the critical part. It changes the phrase from "talking about the ability to sell GOOD 3rd party titles" to "I'm skeptical that the Wii has the ability to sell good 3rd party titles." Hence the remark about crappy editing. Context matters.

In any case, I'll stick with the crappy editing rationale, rather than the double-negative. Let's move on.

Before moving on, this is what was said:

"Maybe it's just me, but I would find it to be pretty damning of the Wii as a console that can move good 3rd party games if it can't even move 1/10th of the units the X360/PS3 will sell on Week-1"

Meaning, he's saying that it's bad that a console that can move GOOD 3rd party software can't do a tenth of the other consoles (with smaller install bases btw).

At which point, I highlighted "good" and said "false". No double negative. No crappy editing.

On topic:

I've seen CoD:WaW Wii and honestly, I can expect these numbers. As stated before, people who would play this game would get it for PS3/360 more often than on Wii. It's a hardcore title when it comes to the campaign. I would say it has casual appeal for the online, but Wii Online is a joke.

I heard a different story. Some GameFAQs users say they can't find the game because they were sold out, but it was because there was limited supply. People were seeing 2 Wii copies while seeing 20 360 copies. Also, some retailers haven't even gotten copies. Here's a link to the thread:

This is an interesting post. You say 1 in 5 WaW owners are avid online players, correct? I'm thinking it's closer to 1 in 3, but it will be interesting to see how much the game will sell in its first 2 weeks (I myself am doubting it will break 100k even in 2 weeks).

Well, it's not like hardcore online gamers would buy this for Wii...Single player would for most people be the first station. Hell, I had to take a few days before I started Mario Kart online.
Plus I don't know how the online system works for this game. You might even only see the acounts of a certain region.

CoD 3 sold more on Wii then on PS3, and while I don't expect that to happen CoD:WaW will definitely do well. It will certainly sell more then CoD 3, which was a crappy game.

Wha? The PS3 version sold the same as the Wii version in America + Japan. The PS3 version has 200k EU sales and the Wii version doesn't have any data.

I know my store got 2 copies of the Wii version, and we still have 2 copies. We got about 80 360 copies and about 55 PS3 ones. We sold about 65 of the 360 and 45 of the PS3.
