Forums - Sales Discussion - Analysis: First week CoD WaW Wii major flop, Medal of Honor breaks 500k

Yeah.. I think thats a good assumption to make. Also, outside of MMORPGs I would hazard a guess to say that the greatest/largest multiplayer games are FPS. From DOOM to Goldeneye to Half-Life/Counterstrike to Halo and Battlefield FPSs are kind of like THE staple of Multiplayer/Online games.

wow 160000 accounts... and only 350k in sales... I did not realize that the Wii had such a high % of people who play online ; ).... that is unless... maybe the sales are a bit higher.

Nintendo (almost a year ago) said that ~40% of Wii owners were online. I'm just guessing but perhaps the FPS crowd would be slightly more likely to have their console online.

the FPS crowd you are reffering are prolly in the 5 million or so who have bought this already for the HD consoles.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Guys Its at 197,000 accounts now and moving up each day! This game is starting to sell slowly but surely and looks like having some real legs!

360 - LuminalACE

PS3 - AUS-ACE

Nice one! I'm sure there's a fair few multiple accounts, but this does look like good news for those of us that want more and better FPS games on Wii. This is why I want it to sell.

Oh and it's bloody good.

On a side note Brawl4Life and Hyperion absolutely annihilated me the other day. It wasn't pretty.

Yes.

It's amazing how it only reached 100,000 accounts in 4 or 5 weeks, but has since added another 105,000 odd in only a couple. Nice Christmas boost of players online methinks.

It will be interesting to hear how the shipments have been. Anyone know when that data is released by Activision?

Even though Ubi Soft has gotten a lot of (deserved) flak for their Wii support, Shaun White Snowboarding on the Wii is actually pretty good, and if Red Steel 2 uses Wii Motion Plus well, I could see that selling a lot.

CoD on the Wii I think will have legs though and probably sell a respectable number, but if you want the bigger sales, it has to be an exclusive title built from the ground up for the Wii.

I can say that after getting my copy a week ago, I now have two friends actively trying to buy it also, but they can't find it anywhere.

Well after a few weeks, it looks like COD:WaWii will do really well.

Since the story mode is much better than MOH's, and it includes the co-op play (whereas MOH had no local multiplayer whats-so-ever), I feel COD will be able to sell to the Wii crowd much better, since not all Wii's are online (less than half are I believe), so having a good local story mode + multiplayer is a must to sell to the masses on the Wii.

After only 6 weeks, COD:WaWii has nearly outsold MOH's first whole year of sales in America, and we can only assume it has done something similar in Others (since we don't have any actual data for MOH Others, it's hard to know). I would say a million is basically guaranteed, though it'll probably take all next year to do so. Link.

So though it was a good analysis, in the end, COD Wii will do at least 500k, it's already half way there (and we're actually still missing the week of Christmas), and I'd expect a minimum would be 750k, though I think it'll easily hit a million in the long run. Legs FTW.

And yes, the game is extremely difficult to find for whatever reason. Perhaps all that advertising? It's amazing what a little advertising can do for a game (I am looking at you, all other 3rd parties).

Maybe people are FINALLY, F-I-N-A-L-L-Y getting bored of those WWII FPS games. I know I'm sick and tired of them, and I've never even played a single one.
