If Sony gets a 7+ million lead  to overtake the 360 in 2009 then I'll run naked through Times Square. You can quote me on that, because if things get that dire Microsoft will just cut the price of their 360 even further. Jasper is out on the shelves and already reduces their production costs even further.

 Barring a miraculous turn around, the 360 will be ahead within 2 weeks. Updated numbers would be nice though.

After this weeks BF sales are finalized, it looks like the PS3 lead will have slipped to about 250k for the year. Next week should have them roughly equal. That'll give the 360 about three weeks to build a lead over the PS3.

Looks like instead of catching up, the 360 might be 500k ahead of the PS3 by the end of the year.

Truly.  This isn't just about price cuts, its about PRICE.  Even if the PS3 drops its price, it will not EVER be cheaper than a 360.  Ever.

That being said, even if it starts to sell better than the 360 WW after a price cut, it would make more sense that the difference between the two would be like we saw earlier this year.

With the install base being likely 7.5-8 million higher for the 360 just at the beginning of 2009, it would take a signficant turnaround for the PS3 to do the CRAZY stuff that AnthonyW86 said.  Maybe its not fanboy talk, but its definitely not realistic either.

I can't be arsed to compare numbers since it take forever, just know the gap was closed tons today. And it probably will outsell the PS3 this year.

The ps3 was beating the 360 easy this year but this christmas would be when the 360 steals the gap and take the crown for this year if sony manage to drop the price next year i don't thin the 360 can catch it for the nex t year, and even more if America gets god of War3, Europe gets his GT5 and Japan gets his Final Fantasy 13 thre of the killer games of sony in diferent countries.

The thing is though going through this thread people are assuming soon as we hit jan 1st 2009 the PS3 will start to instantly sell more. If we stay at say the 360 selling 100k a week more (i know it is higher im just saying it wont be 200k+ a week in January/Febuary/March) would mean at bare minimum 4 months before the PS3 price cut. So if things are at 100k a week that could mean by the time the PS3 price cut gets here the 360 could of made a 2009 lead of 1.6m units ahead of the PS3 already. This is the key thing people are forgetting. If the price cut is really coming in those who were going to buy a PS3 will hold off which means the PS3 numbers in those months prior to the cut will be even lower. There is a high chance the 360 could be 8.5m units away from the PS3 by the end of march. If that does happen the 360 won't need to do a price cut because it will take the PS3 a year at least to just take back the 1.6m it sold in the previous 4 months to the cut.
