Forums - Sony Discussion - The PS3 marketing has been total crap.

The logo is only there for like a second. I think both logos silver and the sound is the exact same. It's very easy to miss.

They had a different commercial last night on football where they showed a reflection of Ratchet. If I didn't already know who ratchet was already, the commercial would have made no sense whatsoever.

Seen that too its the Ps3 game he's just grinding the rails I really could not tell if he was moivng  though....

Former something....

dude the one with "have you started your wish list yet" is awesome. and besides thats not the actually commerical. thats like the pre-game warmup, they wont be showing their actual advertisements till closer to the holidays (i believe few days before black friday then thats when they unload the real advertisments)

I don't see the point. The Gears and Halo commercials are instantly recognizable. There is no doubt as to what game they are trying to advertise. Especially the gears commercial, they show the damn game and the best parts. You can watch them over and over because there is a story there.

When I saw the Wish list commercials for the first time I was like, "What the fuck are they looking up at?"

actually these are very well made.
They use a bit of subliminal marketing, make use of "information gap", and they look classy.
the people in the commercials reflect their target demographic, its short and to the point, and shows the product brand twice.
These are good, much better than some of the others. Even the Morphing ps3 from last year was not very good by marketing standards.

I've done studies for class before and looked at a lot of meta-analyses these are quite hard hitting, you just don't realize it.

You can chose to believe me or not believe me, but I've been taking marketing and psychology for like 6 years now. Liberal high school and now college.

you can clearly see the game in the water in the alley of the new commerical too. but its not instantly recognizable as say halo. but gears when i first watched the commericals i thought it was the new unreal game so those are not very recognizable till it flashes the gears logo.

those are "teasers"

they are a hint for a bigger CM.

Playstation adverts may look weird to kids and people without a noggin but it gives the brand a very mature feeling. When you see Nintendo adverts you know families are being targeted, for 360 it is just poor people as at the end of every advert is the price of the demographics there is 12 year old kids. PS3 is aimed at everyone but there adverts are not 'kiddy' and some have been so ridiculous I still remember them after so many years.

I can't speak for EU/Japan, but in America... it has been really bad. The r2 commercial was god awful, it's possible that Uwe Boll was directing it. And the new "reflections" commercials have shown nothing regarding the value/features of the PS3 (which is the only thing Sony has to tout this year).

The full Gears2 commercial was quite good though.

I liked the commercials where the PS3 turned into the games and had machine guns and what not, those were pretty tight. Those British LBP ads are clever too, thats about it.

(In response to the Gears 2 comment, I have only just begun to see commercials for it, anyone else notice the same thing?)

Oh yes the Play B3yond ads were great too (the baby wasn't part of them), it's too bad they took down that site.

Edit: Play beyong ads for anyone interested, unfortunately Youtube's quality sucks so alot of the effect is lost. (Sound is awesome with a good system)

I think that's all of them, and then my personal favorite, the Universe commercial:
