Forums - Sales Discussion - Chartz off. Nintendo sold 9.27 million as of June 30th

Just chiming in here.

Nintendo says they sold 9.27 million Wiis as of June 30th, 2007.

Scroll down to text of "1. Consolidated Operating Results "

http://www.nintendo.com/corp/report/FinancialHighlights0706.pdf

"As for console business, "Wii" hardware sold a total of 3.43 million units worldwide in this three month period (life-to-date: 9.27 million units)"

So that means within this month (of July) they are most likely PAST 10 million.

And possibly already PAST the lifetime sales of the XBox 360.

Either way you cut it. Now or later. Either adjusted to Nintendo's statement or revealed on August 8th when this week's tallies are rounded up, my long-called prediction came true.

If Nintendo's "sold" figure is supposed to stand for "shipped" well we know how that goes with systems like Wii...

SHIPPED virtually Equals SOLD.

Stay tuned, folks. More of my predictions are going to shock your world in the months to come.

Havent seen this guy in months welcome back, vgchartz is wrong on this I guess...

mM

it's not shipped = sold in germany - I see Wiis in good quantities in every of our video game retailers and I think in all of europe (apart from UK) the sales are more moderate and not as crazy as america and japan

I'd say the numbers are probably close to being accurate. At anytime, there's probably around 100-200k consoles in transition between having been sold to retailers to actually reaching the stores. Add in areas where it's not sold out (many parts of Europe seem to have sufficient stock), and I'd easily say there's around 300-400k not accounted for between Nintendo's numbers and the rest. If you believe that the US availability is extremely low right now (like according to itrackr), then there's a good chance there's a lot of stores that are holding back on their stock or Nintendo has not been supplying as many this month.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

I have not seen Wii out of stock since march in Gothenburg/Sweden. Vgchartz should change the numbers when all Wiis are sold not before^^

Still it feels kind of desperat of Johnlucas you are still not going to have right with your prediction.

AaaAAAaahh these posts are driving me crazy *jumps out of a plane*

that figure is shipped to retailers much like Sony's 4.48 or whatever it is.
It's not the same thing, it takes time to ship them by boat, and at least in the US some retailers are holding on to them for 2 weeks and then selling them all at once. On June 30th vgcharts had Wii at 8.88 million i think which seems to be pretty accurate.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

You would think a veteran of the site knows better than to ask about numbers changes.

Come on, johnlucas, your prediction is close enough even if it fails (which it will). Don't start talking about "rounding up" sales just to make it true.

I already showed you in another thread (by assuming no 360 sales and doubled supply in all regions until the end of the month) that it's virtually impossible for it to happen in July, just admit you were close but wrong.

EDIT - no matter how much you want to believe it, shipped doesn't equal sold, not even for the Wii. Systems in transit, countries where the Wii doesn't sell out, etc... Please don't be a fool like the Sony fanboys who cry every time some news site comes out with the latest shipped numbers.

johnlucas you should know better, you don't get a free pass to run around claiming the numbers are off because of financial reports any more than the Sony fans do.

The numbers were already adjusted upward so that on the week ending July 1st they were a few hundred thousand short of what they said in the report (at 8.85 million actually), allowing for 1-2 week delays between the retailers getting it and sending them out to stores and putting them out on shelves, and the fact that it isn't selling out in most places in Europe anymore. It's actually still a little above what NPD/MediaCreate and all them have been reporting.

Well hey guys, let's not bash everyone who thinks the numbers might be off...if someone thinks they have evidence to prove we're off, we shouldn't just ignore them...
