What Sony must do is in fact position the PS3 for a real 10 year shelf life. Have it directly competing directly against X-Box 720 and Wii HD. The power under it's hood: The Blu-ray drive, the cell, They need to figure out how to squeeze every last drop of juice from those things. Use the advantages you've already paid for. PS4? Forget it, PS3 has more up its sleeve. Find programmers who can work its magic.

I can see that happening, and it quite possibly will.

Did you guys forget Sony said there not in the same market with 360/Wii anymore?

They said all they want to do is get a profit,stop worrying about Sony,there doing fine.

So here is how I see PS3 price cuts for the next year: (quarters are not sony fscal quarters, just standard qaurters of the year)

Nov-dec 08: no price cut or bundle - likely, no price cut but decent game bundle - most likely, $50 price cut - unlikely, $100 price cut - not likely at all

Q1 09: no price cut- more likely, $50 price cut -likely, $100 price cut not likely

Q2 09: no price cut - likely, $50 price cut - most likely, $100 price cut least likely

Q3 09: likely to see no price changes, most likely will see holiday bundles, new sku's and such

Q4 09: equally likely no cut, $50 cut, $100 cut

The way I see it there will be a slight cut in price in the first half of 09 during the typical sales slump period.  Next holiday season is a guess to anyone.  I would see it more likely to have a new sku of a smaller system/ faster system/ larger hd system.  A lot of this depends greatly on the global economy, price of raw materials, and mostly blu-ray diode price.

I suppose your right. The PS3 has the ability to last longer than the Wii and 360 due to it being Blu-ray. Even when seventh generation consoles come out, the PS3 will probably still be running fairly strong. All in all, Sony will make sure that the PS3 results in profit in the end.

Once they get the RSX chip and the cell down to 45nm then they'll come out with the slim along with a big price cut, don't know about 2009 though, hopefully.

at some point Sony will reduce PS3 price, but after that MS will reduce arcade version even further

remember, Jasper is on the way (more cheaper again), and valhalla targetted for 2009, xbox 360 slim model, which even cheaper to produce
