We recently reported that Sony had sold 4.48 Million PlayStation 3's Worldwide, but this figure was in fact a little dated (being up until Q1 2007) and we are now almost in Q3. New information from the Australian Sony 'Experience More' event, held in Sydney, revealed by Sony puts the actual figures at approximately 6 million units sold.

Ephraim also mentioned the latest Australian sales figures for the PS3. He highlighted that the GfK figure was actually a little dated, and the final numbers sat somewhere closer to a total of 64,000 units sold in Australia to date. He also said that, on a slow week, the PS3 was selling around 2,500 units - putting it ahead of all other direct console competitors in the market. Globally, the PS3 has racked up a total of approximately 6 million units sold.

6 million represents the number of PS3's shipped, not sold to consumers.
You would be amazed how many times this subject comes up.

Sold to retailers damnit! Ioi made a thread about this, look around the forums before you start attacking the numbers.

Sony DOESNT KNOW how much sell through there is. Frankly, I dont think they care either.

Sold to retailers. Technically, sold to Sony is sold to retailers, as they don't have to worry about the units from there.

However, it is not the same as sold to consumers, which is what VGChartz tracks.
