Sony has annouced today that it has hired two people to help with its declining image. Citing problems with the image of the PS3, sony top executives have announced that it is hiring Steven Schmidt to help define the image of the PS3 and Tucker Bounds to help with its public relations.
"We have been having problems defining the image of the PS3. We have hired Scmidt to help us define that image in a consitant message, says one top aid to the Sony CEO.
Schmidt has had extensive experience in crafting long term stratagies as well, the source said. Schmidt was the campaign manager for the the republican canidate John McCain and was responsible for his campaign message.
"We saw how masterfully he handled the campaign and kept up his message consitantly. We need that kind of consitancy to keep us in the market," said another top executive.
Schmidt had this to say about the new position: "I' excited about the possibilities. After working so hard on the trail for [ McCain] him I think it will be refreshing to work in a totally different type of industry. Our new image will be one of "Gamers First". Playstation has a long history of success with this crowd and lots of respect. I see the current situation of one that it entirely due to a bad message. Once we get our ideas out, I am confidant Playstation will regain the lead."
Along with Schmidt, Tucker Bounds will be a part of the new image. Tucker Bounds has worked with Schmidt before on the McCain campaign. he was responsible for projecting the canidates image to the media, including doing interviews and press releases.
"This is an area that we need improvement," one employee noted. "We do not believe that the current PR we are getting is putting us in the best possible light when it comes to the sales numbers that are released. Tucker knows how to base these numbers in a more positive way for us and show the reality about how close the console battle truly is."
Said Tucker " It's obvious that the public figures released by NPD and VGChartz.com show a remarkable bias to Sony competitors. Our internals indicate a much stronger Playstation showing and you can see this with the strong release line up. Unlike Microsoft, we do not need to buy good games from developers. We have an excellent history of producing good games, being friendly with developers, and putting gamers first."
When one member of the media noted that Sony's sales could not possibly be close to the wii figures Tucker responded: "You are showing the clear anti-Sony bias that is infecting the media. We know that the American numbers are wrong, if you look at the NPD internals there are many red flags showing problems with its accuracy. In Japan, Media Create and [mike cut out] often have conflicting numbers. And Europe, there is no real public data on that market. It is obvious that with these three problems that Sony is being overlooked in an unfair way."
He continued: "Nintendo may have a long history, but it is one of not making games that the public wants. This alone should make analysts question the numbers. And for Microsoft, they are soft on terror and security, and have employed hackers themselves. Do you really want a company that consorts with criminals to make your console?"
Sony executives expect sales to increase with these announcements.
