Forums - General Discussion - Would you elect an Atheist?

a lot of atheists arent very nice people and hold a lot of hate towards those who are believers...so i would be hesitant to vote for one.

I find religious people can be pompous, self righteous and hypocritical.

Church and state separation please.

I have no problems to vote him/her (I'm an atheist myself, after all). Just like I have no problem to vote a theist (whathever belief) as long as s/he doesn't involve his/her god in the campaign

I know i would. In Poland the leaders are catholic and do some pretty stupid things because of it.

For instance, they don't want to sign papers that would loosen the abortion law (which is one of the most strict in Europe), or a more recent case, the President said that he wouldn't sign the UE constitution because it didn't have a reference to God or religion.

Hell, ever since the current president took office, there are more days off from work because of religious holidays. Don't get me wrong, it's fine to have holidays, but when Poland has the largest amount of days off work(in Europe) due to said holidays (and they want to add more) this is really affecting the economy. Enough said that the church lobby wants to ban any commercial business during any holidays..

Huh. Who would've thought that beggining anew in my real life would coincide with starting anew on vgchartz?

Any day now, the dollar will be worth less than 2 zloty......any day now.....and my life savings will be in total jepordy ;(.

Hell yes. One's personal religious beliefs (or lack thereof) have almost zero effect on their ability to lead.

This. It's pretty much everything I would have said.

And since it's so... I must find something new to put.....

Errr... Um.... I find that alot of christians are major hypocrits....

[yea, that should do...]

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Hell no. Anything besides an atheist (or Scientologist). But if it came down to an atheist and a Scientologist, I would vote atheist.

i think my points been proven by a number of people, who in a thread about voting for an atheist, felt the need to attack religion.

I find a lot more religious people holding some serious hatred and illusions towards atheists and not vice versa. I was talknig to this lady and she asked me what I wass and I told her in a nut shell and she had the balls to tell me that she thoght that most atheists were in jail. She was supposedly well educated too.

OT: The less one's beliefs gets in the way of making decisions the better. If it was a well qualified athiest vs a well qualified religous person I would camp out in front of the voting booths the way I was ready to camp out in front of Target for my Wii.

Of course, religion has nothing to do with politics.

but the prime minister or president could have his/her own opinion on religion which could affect their decisions on certain subjects. if the person hates religion and the believers, he could be making decisions on bias.

the same can be said the other one around, bias will always exist.

religious people may have bias against atheist and makes decision on bias.

and of course religion have nothing to do with politics, laws and morals are the one to look up here
