Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Tales of Symphonia DotNW Review - 6.7 Im still buying it.=)

Wii games lol.

I still might buy it if I can get it for cheap.

so basically the gameplay isn't that much different from the GC one so they give it a bad score? What if we actually really liked the first one. It sounds like the whole review is written from the standpoint if you didn't really like the first one then you wont' like this. Badly written review.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Okay, I'm a bit confused. I keep reading that this guy has never played a Tales game and yet his review says that it's not that different from the first Symphonia.

I don't really see anything 'wrong' with the game from this review other than it's an RPG and some of the stuff went over his head so he's going to be pissy about it.

I think that the game being linear is a poor complaint as there's really nothing wrong with a game being linear. Now the convoluted story complaint is valid complant since the story is a mess and therefore, very hard to understand and enjoy. Also, the reviewer saying "that some of the dialouge makes no sense" might imply that the localization is terrible.

What about the story is a mess? Can someone that's actually played the game tell me? His complaints were about plotpoints from the first Symphonia, that sounds more like a personal problem.

I also what to know what part of the localization is terrible. I've seen a trailer and some gameplay videos which had cringe-worthy voice acting and some cheesy lines but I had no problem understanding any of it.

It looks like I'll just have to see for myself when I buy the game soon.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

It's obvious. If the game is more-of-the-same on other consoles, it's fine.
If it's on Wii, it's not.

Why else do we want waggle, right?

I checked one of his complaints - for instance, how the game is sluggish due to loading times. The battle load time looks to be ~3-6 seconds (while frozen; no music or visuals for ~5sec). For comparison's sake, the original was near instant (~3 seconds), with ToV close behind (about 4 secs). However, Lost Odyssey's load times are far worse, with damn near 20 seconds of waiting before the fight starts!

Well, whatever. I just bought it off the VGC store, soon I'll see for myself if it's worthy of a 6.7.

This wouldn't be the first time IGN scored something lower than expected and those games were still enjoyable. Of course they could be right, it might only be passable - they've played much more of the game than we have, but I'm reserving judgement for myself (providing the game gets a European release date).

Given NA and EU, this game should still be at least platinum.

The load times for battles aren't that bad. I've never played the game, but my gf has put in quite a bit of time on it since I got it this past summer (JP release) and I've seen her play it quite a bit. The load time is just slightly slower than ToV's battle load time. I don't see how the load times would get slower for the Western release. They are most likely the same.

Yeah, LO takes a while to load battles. I have the JP release which is the slowest, as they improved those load times somewhat for the Western release or so I heard.

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

I don't get the "lasting appeal"

He says the game is huge, and that there is a lot to do. Yet, the game gets a lower lasting appeal than for instance Wario Land: Shake it, which definately is shorter than 20 hours, maybe less than 15. How come?

That's a tough call. The first one barely made it, and this game sold about 25% less in Japan.

@smbu2000: Yeah, I wasn't intending to downplay the game for its load time. Faster is always better, but ~6 seconds is just fine for me. I guess the only problem is there's no music / visuals while loading - often RPG's pan around with battle music starting to occupy you, so it might not seem as bad.
