Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So I bought Paper Mario

...on the VC. I had played it before, but, to my eternal shame, sold my N64 and games to pay for a Gamecube. Anyway, it's even more awesome than I remembered it. I've just beaten Chapter 1, and in that time I have heard:

- Super Mario World Overworld theme on the Title Screen.

- Super Mario Bros. Theme on the Chapter screen.

- Super Mario Bros. Castle Victory Theme upon saving a Star Spirit.

- Super Mario Bros. Superstar Theme walking around a pole with eyes.

- Super Mario Bros. 3 Castle Theme outside Koopa Bros. Fortress

- Super Mario Bros. 3 Miniboss Theme during Koopa Bros. Battle

- Super Mario Bros. 3 Airship Theme in Bullet Bill area

- Super Mario Bros. 3 World 1 Map Theme on Level-up screen

- Super Mario World Bowser's Theme

Could they have made it any more retro? That's just one chapter. If you haven't played it but you enjoyed any Mario game or RPG of any kind, you need to get it on VC.

I beat it one week ago and really is an amazing game.

I downloaded it a few months ago, I never finished because I accidently erased my file, never felt like playing it anymore. But I never noticed the music...

Sold your N64? For shame.

But yes, the game really is one of the best games that the N64 ever had. I prefer the sequel (The RPG one not the blegh platformer one)

I did like the sequel, but it had a feel like "Most people didn't get to play PM, so we can recycle the best ideas from it to a new audience." A lot of the puzzles, areas and characters were similar to the original (Ch.1, Ch. 5 and Ch. 7 especially). However they made better use of the "Paper" theme in puzzles and cutscenes than the original.

I agree with you about Super Paper Mario though. It was the worst aspects of PM and SMB together in a bland, repetitive package and with the difficulty reduced.

I beat that game several times actually. It still holds up well 7 years later. The paper aspect helps that alot.

Paper Mario is so awesome. Definitely in my top 10 games of all time.

Yea, I love it and still have the cartridge. I would recommend it to anyone that hasn't played it yet and likes rpgs. I like the silly humor in it like going to your house and reading Luigi's diary (he is so jealous of Mario in his writings).

It's actually my favourite Paper Mario. Sure the second used the paper theme better but I liked the characters, story and world more than the second one. It feels like a classic Mario game with some sillyness and twists. Bowser is hilarious! Can't comment on the third, since I didn't play it.

I had it for the N64 and I replayed it countless of times... I like the music which is amazing! Crystal Palace, the mountain, Dry Dry Desert, they are all amazing!

imo best in the series.
