Am I to understand that you are some Sony technology expert and know absolutely everything about this PS3, disc loading schemes, the porting of games, and data structure optimization?


It's the result of endless discussions with professional games developers, people from the demoscene and other developers (I did many interviews, show reports (tech related and demoscene, tech reviews and tech editorials in the past, so I am well connected in the scene, a buddy Nicholas Blanchford wrote some in depth articles on the Cell, I have had discussions with IBM and Sony experts amongst others in the past).

Also Amiga games were diskette based, so a lot of in depth knowledge originates from there, ways to minimize disc-swapping, limitations, workarounds and such, loading routines, mostly translate well to modern approaches and cases as well.

I am just the type of guy who wants to know how stuff works. I will however never know all I want to know, for every grain of sand on earth there are ~1 billion stars out there (our sun only being one of them)!

MGS4 had awesome highpoly main-charakters but everything else was standard.. i havent played uncharted, its not my kind of game, but judging by the images it has a very unique art design, bright colours and also high poly main characters... uncharted and gears they both aimed for different art-direction and they both captured what they intended to.. but the thing is, i havent played uncharted, so i dont know how sharp it is, how good/bad the AA is, how the framerate is and also how the athmosphere altogether is. gears2 captured everything needed in the graphical department, art-direction and of course the athmospheric feeling and it has a very sharp picture which most ps3 games lack because of bad AA. some of the biggest multiplatform titels are all sharper on the 360.. AC, COD4, GTA4, the orange box, fallout 3, vf5, fight night r3, UT3.. even mirrors edge (i think it was ported from ps3 to 360, cant remember) which will be released this week in europe was sharper, at least the demo was... you know why porting from ps3 to 360 is easier? cause what the ps3 can do, the 360 can do anyway. the other way around its harder cause the ps3 cant handle everything the 360 handls so easily.. the only exclusives i did compare side by side were Gears2 to RS2 and gears2 was like 10x better than RS2. i dont get it how rs2 got 9.0 for graphics from IGN.. even MP3 for Wii had better graphics than RS2 =/.

btw the 1 friend of mine wont sell its ps3, he changed his mind and will keep his ps3 for blue ray movies, online-porn and of course killzone 2.

if killzone 2 dont have better graphics than gears2, sony is screwed. gears2 runs on an already 2 years old multiplatform-engine and killzone 2s engine is completely new and made for ps3 only. actually it is a must for killzone2 to look better than gears2.

i was / am used very good to the PS- controllers, but you do slide on the sticks.

You can't judge Uncharted if you haven't played it. The graphics in Uncharted, along with MGS4's graphics, destroy Gears of War completely.

And Resistance 2 doesn't look THAT much worse than Gears (it's a lot lower bugdet and Insomniac's second attempt at an FPS), are you sure you weren't playing it in SD?

Out of your list, I agree that Fallout 3 and The Orange Box look better on 360. The others look equally good, although the 360's graphics are usually brighter while the PS3's are more sombre. Not better or worse, just different.

Oblivion and DMC4 both looked a lot better on PS3, so that balances out. BioShock was also slightly superior on PS3, or at least will be when they get around to fixing the Big Daddy textures and whatnot (seriously, the only Big Daddy I've seen so far looks fine. Granted, I haven't really been close to one yet, but still).

And the PS3 has a much better processor than the 360, but less RAM. And a different architecture. So, a game needs to be optimised for both systems for it to work on both systems. Seeing as there are more 360s currently in use, and seeing as Microsoft actually pays for this sort of thing, games are generally optimised for the 360 when they can only be optimised for one console. With a high budget title like COD4, IW has enough employees to optimise for both systems, but this is often not the case. If the PS3 were to pass the 360 in WW sales, I guarantee that multiplats would begin to be better on 360.

And nothing on Wii has better graphics than any HD PS3 game. Especially an exclusive. Metroid Prime is one of the better looking Wii games, but it doesn't touch anything on PS3. Which is HD. And exclusive. Including Res 2

I admit the 360's controller design is better- the sticks are concave, as are the triggers, but I don't agree with the people saying that the Dualshock is unusably bad. Hello, 120 million people used it last gen...

I also don't like the location of the analog sticks on 360, but that's personal preference. Again, I am used to a Sony controller.

ps3 version is jaggier. the hell, almost every ps3 game is jaggier than its 360 counterpart.

mp3 for wii sure is jaggy especially on a big 1080p hdtv, but you know, rs2 is juggy as hell too! mp3 graphics arent that far apart. mp3 runns at 60 fps, it looks much smoother in motion than rs2 does. mp3 has a much better art- and leveldesign. and the worst in rs2 are the shooting and bleeding sprites. they look so bad! try comparing rs2 to the cod:waw 360 demo, its like heaven and hell. the ps3 is not so powerful as you may think. the bigger the tv the bigger the difference in jaggis from 360 to ps3 becomes. if you have a 32 tv you may not notice, but you do notice on a ~50 tv.

mgs4 sure looks beautiful but its not like it destroys gears.
technically at least it absolutely dont. though it has some of the best charactermodels. but gears holds its own against mgs4, ask unbiased people who have both consoles or even ask pc users. u cant compare gears to uncharted. one tries to be dark, the other tries to be shiny, the complepe oposite! compare uncharted to mirrors edge.

but you know the problem is i dont care about uncharted nor do i care about mirrors edge.

the most games i care about are multiplat anyway.. and live works better than psn.
