50's style recycled from Bioshock? *facepalms*

But why would that even be an excuse....Oblivion was an EPIC masterpiece.....I can't comprehend as to why someone wold hate it!

It lacked immersion, something Bethesda kept in mind when developing Fallout...obviously.

It may have lacked immersion, but it's probably the longest I have ever played a game. It was a basic RPG, which looked brilliant and played really well. The AI may be mentally retarded, and it has its share of glitches, but with a world like Cyrodiil, they can be forgiven. I suppose the purpose of an RPG is to make you feel like your character, and I'll admit Oblivion was not very good at this. So, even if it's a failed RPG, it's one of my favourite games, just for the sheer scale and attention to detail.

I blew up the first town I saw, and felt bad about it T_T  but also a deep sense of accomplishment :)

Currently Playing:  Saints Row 2 | Battlefield 2 | Company of Heroes

Recently Beaten: Gears of War | Super Mario Galaxy | Darwinia | MGS4 | Sam and Max Ep. 4, Portal | Mirror's Edge | Uncharted | Mass Effect

Looking Forward to: Alan Wake | Splinter Cell : Conviction | The Last Guardian | Batman: Arkham Asylum | SMG2 | Mass Effect 2 |

The 50s thing I think has already been answered here and yeah after a nuclear holocaust, I'm not sure how great technological improvements would be (beyond life sustaining equipment obviously).

The other thing is, Bethesda =/= 2K. Maybe they borrowed affinities from Bioshock, but it isn't the same company as you seemed to indicate by your post.

@kutasek

just get it on PS3.....the difference is minimal between PS360.....if you are rally fussy about differences then invest in a PC as then you will actually see a noticeable difference between the two.

I was already planning to get it on xbox 360, i mean, exclusive dlc and better graphics, i'm not in a hurry, to buy it.

I'll enjoy other games in mean time. There's no rush to buy it.

I enjoy it, but... (Potential Spoilers ahead)

1) SPECIAL is gimped. Agility is worthless. Perception is worthless. Charisma is worthless. 3 Stats you can 1 without ANY negative repurcussions. None. Unless hearing "Get away from me" instead of "Hello" bothers you. Intelligence is needed simply for the skill points per level, and not because your charecter becomes retarded with 1 intelligence.

2) "You need a science skill of 100 to hack this computer" Damnit, I'm only 99! Why not have incremental difficulty, like a password with 10 charecters, and instead of goobeldygook, all charecters that could be passwords, reducing according to your science skill? Bullshit, same with lockpicking. The Higher the skill, the larger the acceptable angle for the pick.

3) Combat: It's nice to be able to pause and heal up to full, then keep shooting your minigun. Completely fucking immersive, isn't it?

4) Combat: The moment I bludgeoned a super mutant wielding a chaingun to death with my level 4, str 3, endurance 4 charecter I realized that combat had become a joke. Ranged enemies are not a threat, only melee ones, and they can be shot.

5) Combat: Enemies do not level up with you, but the higher your level, the stronger enemies in the wasteland. Mirelurks become Mirelurk hunters, Super Mutant Brutes become Masters etc. Not a really big complaint, but they really love their leveling monsters.

6) Speech: Ooo, I have a % chance to increase my score for sugar bombs to 30 caps! I'm in fucking vegas. I'm mixed at complaining about this, it is a Dice Roll game in the end, but it more goes back to SPECIAL being gimped. If you have the skill and the stats, you can get special options, but speech is always just a chance. You just say things very well apparently. Inflection is key!

7) Landscape: How many cell phones did people drop in the middle of the road? First one is cool, the 7000th repeating texture just makes me sigh, and the 14000th one makes me swear. ** Note: Sites and statues are actually extremely well done, just the road texture pisses me off.

8) Text options - I can't say that the writing is bad, but I'm used to knowledge effecting speech options. Finding out that Bittercup dated Papy leads to an infinite speech loop (For infinte XP with infinite patience), finding out that Asshole Doc Brown was a Doctor to the Slavers or Jericho tried to rape Jenny, and your speach does not change. Huh.

9) Weird Karma loop - Want positive Karma? Bring purified water to the beggar outside Megaton.

10) Vampires. Really?

11) Level cap. Really?

12) Tag skills. This is just the old fallout fan in me bitching, but I had assumed tag skills would increase by two because, you know, you're good at them, not just essentially give you a free perk.

Anyway, still a good game, just not what I expected, and I'm in no rush to go back and see if I can find another mad scientist with a rocket launcher in a factory for no apparant reason.

First thing I want to say is that I have rented the PS3 version. There are too many great games out to buy the PC version I just can't afford it. So I'm aware that the PS3 version doesn't look quite as good as the PC360 version but it really doesn't matter because the things I don't like about the game are no doubt multiplat. So here are the issues: 1. The story is whatever. It's supposed to take place in 2277 or something like that after a nuclear war which takes place in 2077, but here's the thing everything looks like it's from the 1950's. You walk around and you're like why does the future look like the 50's? Why does the "pip boy" look like a gameboy? I swear I saw some objects they used in Bioshock. Wussup 2k games are you recycling objects from your games? It doesn't have the class Bioshock does either. And the voice acting is sub par. 2. The Oblivion Engine is still ugly. In 2005 Oblivion was a work of art. In 2008 this engine looks tired. When your guy walks it feels like he has no weight. His moments and how he reacts to the environment around him are completely unrealistic- ditto for the NPC's. All the things that anoyed you in Oblivion are here for you to not enjoy. 3. The fighting sucks. The slow motion practically turn based gun battles are so boring. You might have to shoot a guy 5 times in the head before he goes down. All in slow motion with this horrid beeping and game boy style interface. It's just boring. Booo. So if your looking for a game to skip this holiday let this be the one. As far as over hyped games go forget GTA4. There's a new champ in town. And yes I am a fan of many RPGs and shooters but I am not a fan of this game.

1. You seem to have teh lack of ability to suspend beliefe. Which makes it hard to take any game seriously.

2. Fallout is an old franchise that someone thinks he can do better.

3. You say you admit to knowing FO3 is looking better on PC360 then get down on it for having bad graphics.

4. unrealistic, your playing a fictional computer game.

5. The FPS element is so ho hum and boring that it's well boring. At least the cinematics add some cool looking slowmo flare.

6. You couldn't have played the game very long. It only takes me 1 hit to the head unless they are monsters or have body armour. Are you telling me KZ2 or whatever FPS game you like does head hits better by having instant kills and realistism by not having respawns, health regeneration or hit points?

7. Your probably going to see a lot more HD games and especially games in the future start using purchable model packages. Do to the ever increasing costs of game dev it will be cheaper to just by pre done models. If you want to see custom models then ask them to reduce dev costs. Oh wait you can't dev costs go up based onthe detail of the game and having to please you require more detail anyways. How about showing your support of cheaper dev costs by going to Interplay and buying the original Fallout 1,2, Tactics for $15. Though maybe you already have them.

-------------------------------------

Agility is only good if your not a FPS player, but want to play FO3. Then VATS is your only feasible way to play. I don't like FPS in my RPG and played this and Oblivion in 3rd person. Even though it wasn't very clean.

Charasima is fine for a different play style that isn't combat orienated. Percpetion does seem worthless. it's only purpose is giving you red markers sooner knowing where your opponents are before they do.

Skill mini games were stupid. Your skill shouldn't determine if you can do something, but increase the odds of you being able to do it. So coming under the skill will penalize you. Like less than or mroe than 4 hacking attempts. Lockpicking should effect how close you have to be on the sweet spot.

Unfortunely RPG most of the time are based around BURST HP game play. it's silly, but hey you guys(general gamer not specific this time) buy the game thus showing support that HP inflation sysems are the way to go.

This game seemed oddly easier than the previous fallout games. Probably because it's and FPS making your characters skills FAR LESS IMPORTANT.

I have a high speech, it's usefull, but not as much as it was in Fo1, 2. Which is a shame. I haven't actually had my character sleep with some one.

Yes tag skills bitching. I agree. 1 = 2 points. This game tag skills fail.

Level cap sucks. I believe some modder are going about trying to remove it. :) Wait you can't get mods in the console versions can you :| some day they need tp figure out how to do it.

Alright, here is what I think about this thread:

Fallout 3: Not recommending it, is like not recommending sex because you might get a STD.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Perception is absolutely amazing. It ups your science and Lockpick very nicely.
