Probably next year have a better chance because of Killzone 2, Final Fantasy XIII, God of War III, and Grand Turismo 5. Gears of War 2 looks to be the game of the year.

well mgs 4 is in this category as well. LBP is taking good reviews only because the level editor and hype since platforming part is mediocre at best(i played it for few minutes a while ago).

i would say that only fable 2 and super smash bros brawl deserve GOTY awards this year, but since
 almost everyone is hd fanboy in gaming journalism nowadays fable 2 will probable win mostly. if we consider hype(and we know that hype will be winning most GOTYs) then it will be close battle of the clones: resistance 2, gow 2 and gta4.

Brawl died after launch.  Last time I played it was almost 4 months ago.  My room mate had it and we barely play still.

Gotta love how some people play the first two of three levels of LBP and then criticize it.

MGS4 is the greatest game ever therefore it deserves to win. LBP closely following behind.

agreed snake, MGS4 and LBP are the only games that ACTUALLY LIVED UP TO THEIR HYPE, everything else more of the same.

MGS4 IS very similar to its predecessors, which is good because its predecessors were so damn good too. It's just not an innovative game, but the game is great.... when you actually get to play it, the whole cut-scenes thing was really annoying as hell.

P.S. I wrote Kojima because he owes me 10 hours of my life which I could have spent watching actual good movies or reading books with stories which far surpass MGS4's.

Edit: From just playing the demo of the game I have to say that Left4Dead will be by far the best game out this year so far, think R2 without classes with zombies and your friends being able to control some of these zombies. Let's see if it gets GOTY though.

If you know of some movies that have a better story line than MGS4's care to share them? I'd much rather watch the Cut scenes in MGS4 than the garbage released in theaters nowadays.

Let me put it this way, I enjoyed WALL-E far more than I did MGS4's cutscenes.

When I start up a game I wanna shoot, sneak, command armies, have control, and generally other such stuff. I don't want to sit in front of me watching cutscenes longer than 5 minutes at a time, cinematics can go up to 10.

Do yourself a favor and go read the unabridged version of The Count of Monte Cristo, then come back and tell me MGS4 is any good in the stoy department.
