Forums - Gaming Discussion - The 26 Best RPGs according to Gamepro

Read list, laughed heartily.

Saw Gamepro did list, laughed some more.

Thank you, Gamepro. You can't buy comedy of this caliber.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

zelda is is no way an rpg or action rpg. it perfectly represents the action-adventure genre so i don't know why people feel compelled to throw it into the rpg category. old school NES rpgs absolutely would still be considered rpg's today. they are more pure rpg's than many coming out today. another game that is not an rpg but is called it is super paper mario. the other two paper mario games are, the wii one is not, i owned it for a while and it was not an rpg.

there are traditional turn based rpgs like dragon quest, final fantasy, chrono trigger (this includes more action-oriented turn based rpgs like KOTOR). There are action rpgs like secret of mana, fable, elder scrolls. and there are strategy rpgs like ff tactics, fire emblem. thats it.

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

Proud owner of wii, gamecube, xbox, ps2, dreamcast, n64, snes, genesis, 3DO, nes, atari, intellivision, unisonic tournament 2000, and gameboy

I agree on FFVII.

And Xenogears also high on the list.

Many people consider Zelda not a rpg, but why do they consider Kingdom Hearts a rpg?

''Hadouken!''

kingdom hearts has much more rpg elements than zelda. kingdom hearts is an action rpg, and while it does favor more action type of gameplay rather than really focus on the rpg element, those rpg elements are definitely there and much more so than zelda.

KH has all the elements of an RPG: leveling system, stat advancing, skill distribution, party management, etc. The only thing that's different in KH is the battle system, that's more action and combo oriented than most RPGs, but for me, at its core it's an Action RPG

Kingdom Hearts is pure action on the surface; if you can't see the RPG elements past that, you're not looking very closely.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

Anyway.. all hail the great VII!

I don't consider MMOs to be the same as RPGs (as this list did).

I also don't think that FF-VII is better than CT. That is definitely a minority report opinion.

Mike from Morgantown

MMORPGs are the ones closest to the true meaning of RPG. They have the most dynamic character interaction, economy. Though most MMOs are grindfests, some like EVE online show the true potential of an MMORPG (you can crush entire alliances) and affect the gameworld aswell as other players.

There's a reason why many old school RPG players are now playing MMOs.

Do you mean more people consider CT greater than FFVII?

Surely not.

more than 100.000 GameFAQs members rated FFVII higher than CT
also the Famitsu readers rated FFVII higher than  CT

that's not the whole world of course, only some relevant examples, but talking about a minority opinion, if I understand you well, is nonsense

even the fact that so many more people have played FFVII makes it almost impossible for CT to be rated higher than FFVII by more people, conserdering how much FFVII is loved around the world (cause only the fact that so many more people have played FFVII more than CT says nothing)

but I might have understood you wrongly and you might mean that your opinion is the minority  opinion
if that's the case then disregard this post :)
