How anyone can say its most likely possible for the PS3 will take over the 360 in 09 is beyond me. Not after today. I actually believe the 360 can take this christmas -wii.

The only chance the PS3 has of overtaking the 360 in 09 is if the price cut happens in March, not September.

I think it largely is when it comes to securing third party support.

Neither HD console can compete on it's own and win on a regular basis.  Due to it's high attach rate for third parties, the Xbox 360 can win a lot on it's own, but I personally would rather have the PS3 bolstering the effort to ensure as many games as possible hit HD.

Worldwide in '08 (according to the site) there were still 1.33million more PS3's sold in comparison to 360's. Just to get some perspective.

They would need Gears 2 to give them MGS4 launch numbers to have any hope of beating them in 08, but that would mean bundling the game in all regions not just EU. I think it could get close...maybe 800K difference in the end.

Yep, game wise the only lost exclusives will be ones MS buys which will probably be less and less as the generation continues, the only downside on the PS3 front is that more and more games will continue to be ports enhanced for the 360.

It should help Microsoft profitability to maintain such a good sales rate, Jasper is imminent and that should really help them post good profits in the last two quarters of this financial year.
