Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I hope Nintendo doesn't pull this crap again in 2009

the problem isn't that they should've spaced out their big 3 this year (ssbb, mk wii, wiifit; or just the first two for most core gamers). after those huge games a gap is expected. the problem is after that gap they have slim pickens for the holidays.

this is pretty much the weakest holiday lineup for a system i can think of. tales of symphonia is the only really great game coming out for wii this holiday. after that gap mid year they should've come up with a star fox or pikmin or kid icarus or donkey kong or fzero or something for the holidays. yes they have wii music and while i'm sure that'll sell like 2 million all told its not even close to a big title, whether its good or bad its mostly an interesting side title.

so this just leaves animal crossing while that is a major franchise its a casual game that attracts some core people. so core casual. but not a core game for the traditional gamer.

all a very good fall/holiday season needs for your average gamer is at least 3-4 great traditional/core games and a background of 5-10 more solid titles. last year smg led the pack with metroid out early in august, and plenty of games like geometry wars, z&w, MoH:H2, GH3, FE, and several others. while not great it was good. for me there needed to be one or two more really big time games besides mario and metroid to be considered a great holiday. but it was decent enough. this year i can point to tales as maybe a top tier title and thats it. some would say animal crossing but i got the gc one and thats too casual for me (i like good casual games, but it needs to actually be a fun game, i don't really see where the fun part comes into play with AC games). and there's a decent background of solid games with guitar hero, clone wars, deadly creatures, and a few others. but the background games with only one lead game (and one lead casual game:AC) that while likely very good isn't even mainstream enough to sell a ton... well, thats a weak holiday season. and that hurts much more than any mid year gap in which most people are too busy playing mk wii and ssbb to worry about anything until the fall.

i'm just pissed that the lack of an awesome holiday lineup is making me for the first time ever consider buying a ps3 or 360. i don't want one of those to suck up all my present gaining power or spend all my xmas money on that but lbp, r2, gears2, and fable 2 sure are tantalizing.

i'm dying for madworld and the conduit.

QFT.

It's like reading something I would write... if I ran out of snarky comments and my shift keys were broken.

I agree with SaviorX with the gap. Nintendo needs to continue making more titles consistently so there will be less of a gap between months of releases.

TOTAL control of avatar and sig for 2 weeks, how does that sound?

Sounds good to me. So you agree with these rules?

1. Wii games published by Nintendo of America during the first half of 2009.
2. Gamecube ports don't count.
3. You win if only Wii Sports Resort and Punch Out get published by NoA during the first half of 2009. Of course you also win if only WSR or only PO or neither of these two games gets published, provided there aren't any other releases.
4. I win, if NoA publishes any Wii games other than WSR and/or PO during the first half of 2009.

The bet becomes due on...

... July 1st, if RolStoppable loses.
... the day a game other than WSR or PO releases, if trestres loses.

@Rol: Yes, those rules are perfect. Lets bet :D

Do you realize that if Nintendo decides to publish any 3rd party developed game in that period you're going to loose Trestres ?

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I can't loose, but I can lose. Anyways I'm taking my chances and I'm doing this just for the lulz, though I believe I'll win anyways, since Nintendo isn't interested in releaseing games outside Japan. Just 1 every 3 months max. (Not counting ports)

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

My roomate has been playing Mario Kart for the past few months, and hasn't touched anything else.  I don't know if this is because he still loves the game, or if the gap between high profile first party titles has left him without anything else.  Nintendo probably would benefit from evenly spacing out the release of their first party titles, and minimizing delays.  However, third party developers also need to step up their game.  There is still a lot of innovative possibilities on the wii that third party developers need to ignite.

The worst part about these gaps in big disc releases is that we are getting some great downloadable content without any place to store it all. For shame Nintendo! This generation is quickly becoming one of the worst. It seems none of the big three can get things right.

Great games... lots of irritating issues all around.
