Ok. I am Shigero Miyamoto. I've been posting under this alias for a while. I think you have a point, and will implement it as soon as you, in your infinite wisdom tell me how.

Should Nintendo

Finish games when they would be finished, and then sit on them for a few months to give our year a nice sense of symmetry

Or

Fire the mario team, use the money we saved here to employ some extra managers to tour of facilities, and perform acts of industrial saboutage to make sure the games finish when they should.

Honestly saviour. Nintendo in 08 produced some of the best games ever, and you choose to knock them down because they released the core titles in the first half year and the extended audience titles in the 2nd? You are really spoiled. I assume you were an only child?

Oh geez. I'm not knocking Nintendo. Ask anybody who's aware of my post history, I've been doing nothing but "building them up" for months. However, after reading The Source's weekly previews, often times he mentioned that software kept Wii HW sales lower than unusal in Japan. And I noticed after MKWii's release, there hasn't been a big Nintendo game in months. I think the year should have some symmetry, yea but I don't know about all that firing talk.

Why the personal insults? How am I spoiled? I never requested a game. I'm just saying how (I think, I THINK) they should be dispersed through time.

And no, I am not an only child. I have two brothers and a younger sister, and a cat. Middle class with a good family.

Sorry, I think I woke up grumpy this morning

Anyway, my point is that it's not as easy as you are implying to space out games, and when you have games with legs, it doesn't really matter when you release them

Also, what you describe as a big game is not what others would

the problem isn't that they should've spaced out their big 3 this year (ssbb, mk wii, wiifit; or just the first two for most core gamers). after those huge games a gap is expected. the problem is after that gap they have slim pickens for the holidays.

this is pretty much the weakest holiday lineup for a system i can think of. tales of symphonia is the only really great game coming out for wii this holiday. after that gap mid year they should've come up with a star fox or pikmin or kid icarus or donkey kong or fzero or something for the holidays. yes they have wii music and while i'm sure that'll sell like 2 million all told its not even close to a big title, whether its good or bad its mostly an interesting side title.

so this just leaves animal crossing while that is a major franchise its a casual game that attracts some core people. so core casual. but not a core game for the traditional gamer.

all a very good fall/holiday season needs for your average gamer is at least 3-4 great traditional/core games and a background of 5-10 more solid titles. last year smg led the pack with metroid out early in august, and plenty of games like geometry wars, z&w, MoH:H2, GH3, FE, and several others. while not great it was good. for me there needed to be one or two more really big time games besides mario and metroid to be considered a great holiday. but it was decent enough. this year i can point to tales as maybe a top tier title and thats it. some would say animal crossing but i got the gc one and thats too casual for me (i like good casual games, but it needs to actually be a fun game, i don't really see where the fun part comes into play with AC games). and there's a decent background of solid games with guitar hero, clone wars, deadly creatures, and a few others. but the background games with only one lead game (and one lead casual game:AC) that while likely very good isn't even mainstream enough to sell a ton... well, thats a weak holiday season. and that hurts much more than any mid year gap in which most people are too busy playing mk wii and ssbb to worry about anything until the fall.

i'm just pissed that the lack of an awesome holiday lineup is making me for the first time ever consider buying a ps3 or 360. i don't want one of those to suck up all my present gaining power or spend all my xmas money on that but lbp, r2, gears2, and fable 2 sure are tantalizing.

i'm dying for madworld and the conduit.

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

I propose a self-imposed exile bet between trestres and Rol, but that's just me. It's like a ban bet, only you're not actually banned.

I'm sure I'll find plenty to play on my Wii in 2009. Just a feeling!

Also Rol gets funnier the more irate he gets because his icon is so genuinely cheerful.

I think most of the delay was caused by two things:

1/ The Wii selling so well, with "old" software (WiiFit / MK). This meant it was pointless for Ninty to release any software that wasn't 100% polished.

2/ Motion+. I expect several (if not all hardcore) games to be upgraded to support Motion+.

...

Next year *could* be an insane year for the Wii - Ninty is waiting to be challenged, before responding with their killer cards.

TOTAL control of avatar and sig for 2 weeks, how does that sound?

Sounds good to me. So you agree with these rules?

1. Wii games published by Nintendo of America during the first half of 2009.
2. Gamecube ports don't count.
3. You win if only Wii Sports Resort and Punch Out get published by NoA during the first half of 2009. Of course you also win if only WSR or only PO or neither of these two games gets published, provided there aren't any other releases.
4. I win, if NoA publishes any Wii games other than WSR and/or PO during the first half of 2009.

The bet becomes due on...

... July 1st, if RolStoppable loses.
... the day a game other than WSR or PO releases, if trestres loses.

@Rol: Yes, those rules are perfect. Lets bet :D

Shouldn't it be the date a game gets a set release date for North America?

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Nintendo is (1) slow to announce games, (2) building for 2009, and (3) trying to let third-parties have a crack at the Wii.

Unfortnately, the third parties have not been as cooperative to this point as they have been with the DS/DSL/DSi.

But that could change a bit in 2009 as at least Sega seems to have figured it out.

I guarantee you next year they will not have a huge gap. Because they have a lot of hot exclusives coming out in 2009 like No Moe Heroes 2, sin and punishement 2, the conduit, rygar the battle of argus and other hot games i can't think of. In 2009 they will probably only have a two month gap of no hot titles. Nintendo will definitely not screw up next year.
