Forums - Microsoft Discussion - NEW IGN video shows 360 install and noise difference.

Here is a video showing how much quieter the 360 runs when the game is installed. Also shows how the install happens. Awesome. Also unlike the PS3 you dont need the disc. It installs the full game. As you can see the noise level is pretty much non existant. Well done M$. I will be getting the 120 GB HDD.

You have to keep the disc in to verify you own it, but it dosn't spin the drive

I thought 360 noise issues were fixed

Hate to burst your bubble but the disc has to remain in the tray.

Noise was reduced, but you can't eliminate it, when ur using a dvd player.  The use of the HDD can help reduce it even further, but even then, I'll doubt that It will eliminate all noise.

This is a good idea. To bad the hard drives costs so much. It might end up being as quiet as a Wii.

Here's another great video showing the loadtimes, side-by-side.  It's like 15-20 secs faster...an enternity in this instant gratification world of today.

Pretty impressive, and a feature that I will surely put to use on my elite.  With the new features of NXE, M$ will have to launch a bigger HDD for storage hogs, and hopefully, it's not going to cost an arm and a leg.  I've gotta hand it to sony for that capability, which I'm sure is a something that M$ can add if they "really" wanted to.

i think he means that it is a full install which doesnt use the disc for anything other than verifying the owner has the game.

the ps3 has installs but it doesn't install the whole game.

I knew this anyway.. when I run demos and xbl games from the Hard drive the fans at the back don't make that loud roar that you get from DVD drive.

Some people seem to forget those installs for the 360 are mandatory.
