Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto: TP and Galaxy could have been better; Punch-Out, Portal, and more

I think a few reviewers might feel a bit stupid.

Reviewer: Super Mario Galaxy gets the score perfect and a 10!

Miyamoto: It could definately have been better.

Anyway, I really liked the interview. But again, I probably am a bit biased, I like all Miyamoto interviews.

To Miyamoto, the scale goes to 11. (Spinal Tap reference here for those who don't get it).

Seriously, the MTV Multiplayer blog is quickly becoming a must read for me. Both the interviewer and interviewee command respect.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Great interview. I got the same feeling with Zelda. It didn't have the same sense of adventure I usually get when playing those games. I thought Mario Galaxy was absolutely brilliant though, but if he says it can be improved than I believe him.

ya, like everyone here, i agree with the twilight princess bit. i thought the game was really awesome, definitley 90+, but there was something missing.
as for mario galaxy, it was my favorite game this gen. pure. awesome.

Personally, what was missing from Twilight Princess was the overworld. It was big, but almost completely empty, in contrast to other Zeldas where there's always something crammed beyond the next nook or cranny.

And like Khuutra, I'm salivating at the prospect that the next Mario game will somehow be even better than Galaxy, 'cuz there's not a whole lot of room to improve. But then, I'm not the genius...

Hehehe excellent interview. There's nothing like listenin to a real game designer that has a real true passing for his profession. I wonder how a FPS made by him could be.

Well I dunno. I LOVE Twilight Princess. I think it was an awesome game..I even liked it better than Wind waker-which was great too but the sailing drove me nuts. And Galaxy..wow! That game is charming and fun from beginning to end.

But I do agree that both franchises needs new ideas and directions. I think that TP and SMG pushed the current design to the limits and is time to find a new one ^^

I concur. While Galaxy and TP were excellent neither were big leaps forward. In fact TP (really a Gamecube game) was very much like previous Zelda's.

Nintendo wants to bring more people into gaming. Instead of making the next Galaxy harder or Zelda longer I expect they'll do something really interesting that makes them both fresher, more accessible and ultimately more fun.

I love Miyamoto interviews. He's a really down to earth guuy, and I'm really looking forward to the new Zelda + Mario now.

Also, Miyamoto has always said he makes games that he enjoys, so it's good to hear that he liked Spore and Portal

The title of the article should've been "Miyamoto Interviews the Press" XD

That's AWESOME!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

What a true gentleman.

I can't wait to see what they do with the next Mario and Zelda games.
