Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto: TP and Galaxy could have been better; Punch-Out, Portal, and more

i really enjoyed this read. i'm glad he sees the same way i do (that most of the FPS are just the same things in different settins *coughbioshock*) but that there are inovative ones like portal that are really amazing. anyways, i just hope he brings us some really hardcore games soon, i want to especially see more rpgs on the wii

Doesnt seem as though he's interested in FPS innovation. RPG, adventure innovation is more akin to Ninty spirit anyway.

He is certainly worried about the "hardcore" label isn't he? I got advice for him, make games challenging especially games that adults will enjoy playing, S&P, PO, etc.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I'm not a big FPS fan, but one game I really feel very refreshing was Elebits, not only because of the controls of course, but all the puzzle elements and the idea of searching through all the level, instead of killing.

Castlevania Judgment FC:     1161 - 3389 - 1512

3DS Friend Code:   3480-2746-6289

Wii Friend Code: 4268-9719-1932-3069

That was really, really, really cool. The idea of Miyamoto going "Okay, it is time to make Mario and Zelda more innovative again" is mind-blowingly exciting. I hope he takes the director's chair.

Also: he liked Portal? That is so cool.

Nice interview I like the fact that Miyamoto talked about punch out!

YES he is back on this horse..

i agree with him pretty much, while tp and smg were good games there was something missing.

I am in the camp where I'm more excited because I thought "Wow! If you can improve on something as awesome as Mario Galaxy, you must be on the right track." more than "I can see where it could have been improved"

I'm a huge Zelda fan, and I completely agree that something was missing from TP. I just didn't get that vibe that I have when I play other Zelda games. While it was still really fun to play through the first time, now I quickly grow bored of the game whenever i decide to play it.

I can't wait to see what Nintendo does with the next Mario and Zelda games, and I can't wait to see what new ideas Miyamoto comes up with for games!

@megaman79 Adults are enjoying Wii and DS, what do you think is the expanded market? Kids were always the market for games. Maybe just say Hardcore even though I hate those labels ~_~

I don't find it surprising he said Mario and Zelda could have been better, that is what most directors will say about their movies too, they could be better to hype up their next releases.

interesting that he is asking about other games. last time I checked he didnt even know what Ratchet and Clank was.
