Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony on DLC: 'Nothing is ever exclusive'

Exclusive content from any but a first- or second-party developer (ie. they only develop for a very specific brand of product) smacks of arrogance to me. By giving preferential treatment to one game system over another with a multi-platform release implies that the one getting special favors is the one that actually matters to you. And when there's different exclusive content for each version of a multi-platform release, it gives the impression that the developers want you to buy all of the versions, also a very arrogant position.

But blatantly bought time-sensitive exclusive content... Well, that goes beyond arrogance and dives into the realm of shameless corruption...

hey who wouldn't be corrupt for 50 mln?

Strangely enough, I wouldn't. Money is a means to an end, not an ends to be mean about. I would much rather be a valuable contributor to humanity than financially rich. Ideally, the former leads to at least some degree of the latter, but I don't have too many complaints if it doesn't. As long as I have enough so I can keep myself alive and helpful, I don't really need much money.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

They're doing the same thing with Mirrors Edge. Pot calling kettle black.

They know DLC is important and would love to have it on a lot of their games.

There is no Mirror's Edge DLC.

That was a rumour.

I appologize for being out dated. Replace Mirrors Edge with Bioshock and it is the same deal though. I think they are just hating on the idea because they usally miss out on the exclusive DLC.

dlc is important if u want the best version of fallout 3 u should get the 360 version, if u dont really care about dlc then its easier to make your choice for which system u buy a mulit release for. as for dlc not staying exclusive, he should ask bethesda about that cause all of their dlc stuff is on the 360 and not the ps3. dlc can prolong a titles life span and he knows it, he is just sad and angry that the ps3 doesnt have anywhere near as much dlc as the 360 does.

I suppose we were.  Just the same, there are people out there with integrity who are not tempted to throw that integrity away at the promise of a huge sum of money.  There's bound to be at least a few game developers who fall into that mindset.

Exclusive DLC can be huge but we just havent seen it properly executed by anyone yet.

Never gona happen, most dont even finish their games.  I didnt finish GTA4 and i could not care less for any dlc.

Id much rather download new games of PSN then pay for some extra GTA missions.

i havent even got my copy of gta4 anymore

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Maybe GTA4 DLC will be available one day on psn.

That's third parties for ya.

Look at this:

WipEout HD came out last month.

Socom: Confrontation came out two weeks ago.

LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift came out this past week.

Resistance 2 comes out next week.

Killzone 2 comes out in February, and White Knight Chronicles should be localized sometime around then, as it hits Japan in December.

InFamous follows in May.

These games will ALWAYS be exclusive to the ps3. How long will Microsoft's third party "exclusives" stay exclusive? Like Tales of Vesperia? The upcoming Star Ocean 4? All the big ones should go the way of Bioshock, and even the smaller ones might follow the path of Eternal Sonata, depending on who the publisher is (like Namco).
