Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto reactions to bad Reviews on Wii Music

Woah, I see what I said was blown up into sales = quality. I could have probably clarified, but obviously, that isn't what I meant. BrainBoxLtd sort of clarified what I meant to say. Britney Spears may have sold a lot of albums, but does the public still care about her? I doubt many people think she's the greatest thing to happen to music, which is why they stopped listening.

I could be wrong and Khuutra is right (this power being reserved to the academia / intellectual elite), but I'll be damned if the current reviewers of today were considered the "elite." Recall how all of these guys just tossed 10's at GTAIV like nothing - is this game going to be remembered as time passes? Other than the fact it had a ridiculously massive budget, I don't think so. Many gamers were disappointed (while reviewers were not). Those gamers have more control than review scores over what lasts the test of time. (Actually, that's what I mean when I say majority anyway)

edit: @Ari_Gold - It's possible there are many out there who feel the same way. $50 may be too high a price tag for this type of game, as I'm not quite sure how many people are that interested in music. At the very least, if sales aren't amazing it will likely drop to $30 (like Big Brain Academy did). Brain Age wouldn't have sold so well if it weren't priced as it was.

I think when you become as successful as Miyamoto, yoo stop caring what others think.  His creations are well on their way to selling half a billion units and the man still has a good, long time before retirement.  Plus, those creations will long out live him.  He is the Walt Disney of video games and no other individual in the video game industry has made their company even remotely close to what Miyamoto has brought to the table for NIntendo.  Hell, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that has contributed one tenth as much as Miyamoto.  He is just that damn good at what he does, and he doesn't need to give a damn when one whiny punk trashes his product in a review.  Millions will still buy and love Wii Music no matter what Matt thinks, and the people who listen to his tripe wouldn't have bougth WM to begin with.  Miyamoto  knows it's meaningless, and he does't let it get him down.

This reply is the only one we need in this thread. You might as well end it now. Miyamoto has his influence reaching hundreds of millions of people. Matt, a few thousand, many who listen with a grain of salt. Actions speak louder than words. Matt is talking to earthworms. Miyamoto is audibly talking to Jupiter.

Just because Matt was outspoken about his dislike for Wii Music before it's release doesn't make his review any less creditable. I'm sure if I played a preview of a game that I didn't like wouldn't it still be possible that I would still not like it when it was completed?

Why would they pull him off of the review because he said something? Wouldn't that have shown IGN's bias towards Nintendo? Wouldn't it have been even better for Wii Music if it turned out that he loved it? Would anyone question his review at that point or would the opposite group just say Nintendo was pouring money down his throat.

I don't think it's that shocking that there's going to be a review that doesn't match your expectations. I think Miyamato has a good handle on things... but I'm interested in seeing if he makes any time to do interviews for IGN now (but even then, will it be Nintendo or Miyamato's decision?).

Oh, he's calm now.

But next time he sees Matt I hope he upturns the tea table on his ass.

Why the table?

Ever since Matt lost weight, Miyamoto could just sneak up and upend Matt.

As for the discussion, Wii Music is a great game, just not a game for ME.

It's just like I can identify certain movies as great movies, just not the types of movies I'd enjoy.

There have always been genres I've inherently disliked, but that doesn't mean I have either the drive or the right to shove that in people's faces.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

I can't believe some people defend wii music... Anyway I don't think miyamoto cares he is going to make money regarless of what's the score of the game.

Lolz Wii haters gathered in 1st page and started defending each other. Probably later I didnt both reading more.

OT:Miyamoto is awesome. Why should he be mad? A couple people not liking his game wont stop it from selling.

I suggest that you actually look at what you criticize before you criticize it. It's a dangerous game, going into a pro- or anti- mindset without really knowing what you're for or against.

Take a gander, unless you wish to continue what amounts to hearsay.

I played it and didn't like it. I expected a game that I could pick up and have fun with for 15 or 20 minutes, something like WiiSports, Mario Kart or Boom Blox. A game you can pick up and have fun with without extensive tutorials, where the controls just make sense and don't require explanation. From the time I spent with it, it didn't feel intuitive or immediately fun. A couple of my friends who don't play video games beyond Wii Sports or Cooking Mama games didn't like it either. They were confused about what they were supposed to do, if anything, to win. This game wasn't what I thought it would be, but in this case that's not a good thing.

I think that is why this game is getting so much disdain. People are looking for the goal and don't realise it is about creating music and challenging yourself to make better music.

It is failing hard. The first sign of the end of big N's joyride this gen, and a sign of the things to come which will put Sony back on top come Christmas 2010.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.
