360 has best graphics right now.

why wouldn't there be? In 2011 it will be topped easily like it is every gen. It won't be as big of a difference as other generations, but it will be there.

Depending on how long this generation lasts, I would assume that the next generation will have nicer graphics, though I think the days of exponential graphics increases are done.

In the future, advances in physics and AI will most likely be more predominant. Doesn't matter if you have a photorealistic scene if the physics don't make it believable.

I hope that the next generation will focus more on gameplay and interaction, rather than graphics, and I think that it's a likely outcome based on how the Wii is selling compared to its two graphically superior counterparts.

Having said that, PC's are already more graphically impressive than both the 360 and PS3...so there's no doubt in my mind that someone will build a console with better graphics than this generation. The components used for the PS3 are liable to be dirt cheap in 5-10 years (whenever the next generation starts), meaning you could get at least comparable graphics without breaking the bank like Sony has been doing.

While it might sound strange now, its possible future consoles will all use Cell processors (or its successor) if it becomes a mass market item.

I still haven't seen anything on PS3 or Xbox360 that is better than some PC games with a decent spec PC.
So I'm not actually too impressed with this currect claim that those 2 consoles have such great graphics.

In 2011 it should be reasonably easy to produce a system that is 5 to 10 times as powerful as the PS3 at a cost low enough to sell the system for (roughly) $300 ...

As long as a company sees value in increasing the processing power we will see the technology progress

I personally think the next generation will be the last generation where graphics will be a major selling point. After that its going to be game nuance, world breadth, and character depth that are the differentiating factors to game titles. The key is going to be that by the time the graphics are no long a major concern the price of a machine capable of those graphics will no longer be a huge concern as it is now. But mark my words, you will still have games that choose to look like Wario Ware and other low end graphic games. Its an art style that sells for to a crowd with different tastes. Its just a fact of life that not everyone is really into superb graphics. But luckily by the end of the next generation it will be a developer choice regardless of platform, and I think games will be much better as emphasis is placed on game mechanics and story again.

PS3 is good but Xbox360, for the moment, is quite similar.

GT5 on PS3 is beautifull but PGR4 on Xbox360 is too
KIllzone2 on PS3 is beautifull but GearofWar on Xbox360 too

it is hard to see strong difference between the 2 hardware.
there is maybe a little advantage on PS3 (Killzone2 again ...) but nothing very BIG.

It is one of the big problem of the PS3 :
it is supposed to be OVERpowerfull but for the moment it is just as good as a Xbox360.

You could ask did the wii cause enough of a change for console makers to try way different new things instead of more power ? i doubt it, no matter how crazy they get they will make the hardware atleast 5 times more powerfull.

after this gen graphics is at the point of being a nonfactor in sales. not very many people care for HD and having realistic looking games. cause the more realistic the games look the less interested people become cause of the fact that games are considered not reality and should be not a movie. which is where the ps3 is heading right now a moviesque system. but as i said before you only need as "good" of graphics to know who and what ur looking at anything else is overkill.
