Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Final Fantasy IV: GBA vs DS

Dammit people, FFIV DS is perfectly fair, it's just hard in a way that requires you to consider strategy.

Yes, as it turns out, status magic is really important! WHO KNEW, right?

And no, the SNES version compares to neither of them.

Again: if you have to choose (and I imagine you do), go with the DS version. There no reason to go GBA unless you're just in love with sprites.

It should also be mentioned that the battle system in the GBA version is glitchy, while the system in the DS version functions very effectively.

Hates Nomura.

Not true, you can use the perfect strategy in FFIV DS and still lose.

The DS version is remade into a blend of pre-FFVII and after-FFVII elements; you get awesome cinematics and some new elements like augments in the mix.

I wholeheartedly recommend the DS version.

I heard u get one hit KOed a lot in the DS version. There is not strategy about that whatsoever. Kinda gimmicky way to make a game harder than it should be if u ask me.

^^You do Arsenal but the story of FFIV is done best in the DS version. Even the original Japanese Super Famicom version had large parts of the script cut. That script has been added back to the DS version. So while the gameplay takes a small hit due to the weird boss balance, the story is better than ever. Any fan of FFIV should play through the DS version once purely for chance to see the story as it was originally intended to be seen. Overall SE and more specifically Matrix Software did an excellent job with the game. If they had left the difficulty identical to the Japanese original it would have been perfect.

Well guys, thank you very much, I'll stick with the DS version :D

Don´t know what you are talking about Darc Requiem, I only died once in a boss battle because I was careless (mom bomb) and never grinded except in the final dungeon. I hadn´t played FFIV for a decade so I didn´t remembered how the bosses acted. And I did all the available sidequests without grinding at all as well. If somebody is a RPG noob then yes, he should play the snes version (because the gba port sucks), otherwise the DS version is the one to go. It offers real challenge and needs real strategy, quick reflexes, the ability not to lose track of your party commands during hard battles. Boss battles are meant to damage you a lot anyway.
