Or they might get House representation (which actually would be three house seats, due to population size) but no Senate representation - seating them under VA, MD, and WV. and allowing those district to vote for those state's Senators.

That is really just too much for the do nothings on the Hill to take in.  This is the only real option:

I find it somewhat embarassing that the capitol of the NATION is in such a bad state economically. DC should be an example of what the rest of the country could do.

It reminds me of when America proclaimed itself to be a "free" country yet still there was slave trading going on in DC.

Yeah, when John Adams moved in slaves were still turning the swamp of Foggy Bottom into what u see today.  Good HBO miniseries, btw.

The country is in the shape it is now because of religious loonies like Bush and Palin. What the white house needs is change and Mccain is just Bush Jr.

I'm sorry but if you don't think evolution exists then you have no place in the government.

No, religious loonies are not why this nation is in its current shape. Well, they are not the sole reason. They are merely a component of what ails this nation.

At least the Democrats have found the soul of their party again and have a strong, capable leader.  I don't consider myself a democrat - I have voted both Republican and Democrat in my life, but in this election cycle I can't imagine not voting for Obama, who has proven himself even tempered, intelligent, and of good judgement.

The Republicans are due for a massive civil war between the rational conservatives and the religious conservatives for the leadership and future direction of their party.

The Republican party we once knew, that was once respectable and principled, is no more.  Barry Goldwater, a true Republican, is famously quoted:

However, on religious issues there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and 'D.' Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of 'conservatism'

Oh Barry, I can only imagine if you had been alive to see McCain pick Sara Palin as his VP.

are you the staunch mccain supporter or what!?
close to a filibuster proof senate does not =/= filibuster proof or even less filibustering. this is nonsense and sensationalism.
"Oh no be scared of the democrats they could in some way be seen of doing something they aren't now and won't be able to do in the future!"

i thought that as long as one guy can you can filibuster your hearts content

well that is how it used to be, right now you need some portion of the senate to do so, which the repubs still have. Which makes this editorial complete garbage and fear mongering.

Sounds amazingly like what we have in the UK, except further right than our Conservatives. Lol @ you considering Democrats "socialist". We would consider them hardline right-wing people, the kind that gets less than 1% of the vote.
