The price cut will have a an affect over he christmas season when mom is out and sees a $200.00 xbox and a $400.00 PS3 and maes the choice. The cut was well timed for a boost for a few months and we will see but hopefully a boost over cristmas when the most hardware is sold.

I am sure on some small levle that will happen, but as a parent i can tell you that I learned a long time ago that if my kid wants a wii and I bring home a 360 just because it's cheaper i am going to have a major headache on Christmas morning. I think the mass majority of shoppers out there are like me. We get what is asked for and not replace. I think anyone hedging that the 360 is going to get some magical boost over the holidays over a price drop that went down in early Septeember is wishfull thinking.

so ps2 is going to sell the best then?

in america? yes. everywhere else? no. especially europe, where ps3 is going to tear a new asshole into the 360 and force the price down to £50 for the arcade.

Wow, nobody pointed out that it was a horrible graph choice?

Breaking it down into territories and looking further back clearly shows that current average non-release weeks are above those before the price cuts.

360 Arcade becomes around $300.00 with the purchase of a Wi Fi Adapter anyway.

Zucas,

to be fair, we dont have Halo3 this year ...

but you do have gears 2 and fable

Yeah, it's weird.

I know that last year had the Halo 3 boost, but sales are down from last year, and with only Gears 2 to be the app to boost sales significantly, I don't see how this price cut was effective given it's back to being ahead of the PS3 by a little. I guess it's better than being outsold by the PS3 for 37 weeks, but still...

I think using that chart, it's hard to actually see.

The X360 was at 100,000 units/wk before the price drop. Now it's done no less than 143,000 since the drop, and saw an increase vs. last week to 157,000. That's decent, no?

As others have stated, price drops help out for more than 1 month. Go look at the PS3 price drop last year. It helped Oct/Nov/Dec sales decently, but the biggest effect was post-holiday when it started posting massive YOY increases. That's when it matters.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

maybe like they said, it was not to boost sales but to make sure demand does not go down
