Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 best seller in Spain!!!

Too bad that the average English person usually sucks in English too :-/

The average English person can speak English fine, unless you are a 'youth' and you've been influenced by American rap or abreviated internet talk, but bad punctuation and grammar is just sad.

About brands though, it's Brand, Brand, Brand here in the UK as well but it seems we are more influenced by popular culture now more then ever. It's the reason I think the Wii is so dominant and the 360 is doing so well, compared to the rest of Europe. Recommendation goes a long way also, especially when I hear people saying that Guitar Hero III is only on the 360 and that a person should get it for that, when I can tell that person will only ever get Guitar Hero III or Rock Band so the PS2 was the cheaper and more logical choice.

Hmm, pie.

Spain is cool, because they won Euro 2008.

why would you even care you are from australia

So?  Since when do you have to be from a certain region or country to enjoy a certain event and enjoy a certain team?

He is a traitor he was in the first place for austria then the netherlands and now spain...

A justifiable position.  When the home side is eliminated, Australians cheer for a side that sounds like the home side.  Then they cheer for the Dutch because the Dutch, by and large, are an unobjectionable people.  Then they cheer for Spain, Croatia, Czech Republic, any of the South American countries, Botswana, and so on down the list in an almost random fashion...until they get to Italy.  No one cheers for Italy.  Ever.

A very arrogant and misguided question.. you should ask yourself why PS3 is winning in Spain and nowhere else.

simple... very very very materialistic nation. Image is absolutely everything. So brand loyalty is strong and PlayStation has that. see... easy.

Actually, because I often go to spain, as a french neighbourg, I think I can say, very respectfully, that spanish aren't materialistic. At all. But they like what shines and blings. Which seems to be something common in many countries. Anyway...

Still, materialism or bling has nothing to do with brand LOYALTY.  And you 360 fanboys keeping repeating the PS3 sell only because of brand loyalty, do yourself a favor, get your head out of your *** and try to accept that people buy a PS3 because THEY think it's the system that fits THEIR tastes more and not because they are too stupid to think by themselves...

I'm so bored to hear that BS about brand loyalty that I'm considering starting a counter attack repeating that people buying a 360 only do that because they are cheap. It's as lame. See how bored I am???

temper temper..

I didnt say that the PS3 sold because of brand loyalty, I said it sold MORE in spain because of it.   The PS3 sells because it is a very good system, but there has to be a reason why it sells inordinately more in Spain and Italy than anywhere else.

Oh and saying that in Spain they arent materialistic and yet they like Bling is a little bit of a contradiction.

Ok... then I'll start saying that 360 sells MORE in UK because brits are cheap? do you see any difference?

Materialism is about owning things, bling is about owning something that makes you shine.

The need to own a car is materialism. Renting a Ferrari is bling.
I dont' know if I'm very clear...
It's not about who owns the most, but who shines the most.

By the way I hate to talk of other people from another country as a whole, so I'm sorry if I offended any spanish there, I didn't meant to... I like your country a lot, probably my favourite country after my dear France.

And sorry if I look rude, hard day at work, I'm having a hard time controlling myself.

Although the PS3 has a larger installed base in Spain, it's by less than 100,000 and the Wii is selling better than the PS3 week-over-week. At the rate things are currently going, the Wii will pass the PS3 in Spain sometime next year, but this doesn't take holiday sales into account. Spain is also the last European stronghold for the PS3 other than "Other Europe"; Italy fell a few weeks ago.

Why is this happenning? Because ultimately, the PS3's "potential" is meaningless unless it is realized, and the market's general consensus is that this has not happened. Similarly, its non-gaming "features" are meaningless unless except to people who use them, and again the market consensus is that these features are not being used. This drags the PS3's "value" down in many people's estimation, to the point that they aren't willing to pay what Sony asks for the console. This does not necessarily make the PS3 overpriced, but it does make it overengineered to the point where it can't be sold profitably at a price people are willing to pay.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I think the reason why the Ps3 has sold so well in Spain is because of marketing and advertising. I was in Madrid a couple of weeks before the launch of the Ps3 and I could see it was advertised and publicised way better than it had been in my own country. On the high-street in one huge shop window of an expensive building I could see a shiny Ps3 sitting on what looked like a black-cloth pedastal or throne which just made the console look god-like and people were taking pictures.

Where's in my country (Ireland) I didn't see a single advertisement for the console, and even unto this day I don't see any adds for playstation 3 games with the Mirror's Edge add showing the Ps3 being the only acception.

And microsoft has been giving me two xbox360 console adds per addbreak on tv along with gears 2 and fable adds quite frequently. So what's the plan sony? Advertising works, Spain proves it, and so does the wii and wii fit.

Wii will pass PS3 in Spain next week, I guess that makes it an uncool country.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

So thats why there's so many "amigos" on PSN. Petty the rest of the world wasn't like Spain, Sony's getting their ass kicked everywhere else. I do however feel PS4 will take them back to the top.
