Forums - General Discussion - Bush and Bernanke ALSO want a Stimuls Package

Gosh darn our moderate government , where both parties believe in pragmatic intervention.... Argh!!!!! Dirty moderates.

Don't they know, they have to pick: Fascism or Comunism. There's no in-between. How are we ever going to get WWIII video games if the government doesn't get more interesting?

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

considering that I owe 1800 in taxes minus the $600 stimulus check, also minus whatever this one might be, I might break even on taxes before having to pay out.

Ah yes, debt financing. A terrific way to help a country out of recession. Which is why the United States has spent the good years saving up money through surpluses and paying down their debt just to be able to afford such a... oh crap you guys are fucked.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

A quote on one of the most popular Canadian blogs:

"When the Communists show up to protest the Nazis, you're supposed to pray for an asteroid, not pick a favourite."

Sotf, we (the US) have been fucked since December 23, 1913.

There are other extremes, beyond Communists and Nazis, there are people who cry for the end of federal powers, an end to the UN. There are many radical beliefs... some radicals even believe the U.S. was fucked the day the Federal Reserve was created.

Joe The Plumber doesn't need to worry anymore... Any potential tax increases will be canceled out by this stimulus.

Jokes aside, this looks like another desperate attempt to get the economy going. Either that or just throwing some money to the masses to appease any possible anger from the bailout. Maybe it can even give McCain a few points.

I wonder if the US plans to ever repay its debt.

I am not saying national debt is a good thing, but I think people misunderstand it to be like credit card debt or something.

As of June 2007, the U.S. owns 9.7 trillion in foreign bonds (both public and corporate) and other foreign debt.

National debt is another boogie man politicians use to try to get votes, because it sounds good to oppose.  Just like it good to support campaign finance reform, or how they like to "protect family values", etc.

That being said, the debt is really high and imbalanced.  The problem with today's national debt is that it isn't being invested into building infrastructure or other factors that contribute to our ability to repay it.
