Forums - Gaming Discussion - what was the last game you bought without reading a review for it...

... or even hearing word of mouth for it? I know usually before I spend my £35+ on any video game I usually read a few reviews first and maybe see if any of my friends have played it before to see how they liked it. But occassionally I just go into a game shop and pick up a game which i haven't heard anything about or ever read a review on.

My latest game that i picked up was bladestorm: the 100 years war on ps3. I was just browsing through the games, saw it and decided on the spot it might be something that I like, and it turned out it is. After I played it for a while I decided to read some reviews and they weren't all that good. To be honest if I read the reviews first I would have never picked it up. I have done this for a few games in the past as well, some have worked out well while others haven't.

What was the last compulsive, uninformed game purchase you guys have made?

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates- DS

That's a very good question--with games costing $50-$60 nowadays, I tend to only pick the ones that I have at least some idea if I'll like or not.

For that reason, I think it was Apollo Justice--I didn't read the reviews because I knew I'd enjoy it, based on series pedigree alone.

Oh! It might have been Spore, but I can't remember if I read any reviews or just bought it because I liked the Creature Creator...

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

GTAIV and MGS4. I pre-ordered both and paid them both off like a month before they were out.

Earth Defense Force 2017. It wasnt worth it.

The last one before that was Fable. Take a guess how that worked out for me.

The last blind purchase I can remember making was Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution. It sat unopened in my collection for several months and when I finally tried it I was amazed. I play it on a regular basis to this day.

Tales of Symphonia. I never heard of it when my dad gave it to me.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I always read reviews first.
