Xerox alto was bought for use with stock since xerox could not launch it, they were barred against it legally.

nextstep was a baby project of jobs, so i could say it was apples all along, after all what is apple without jobs? (also i want a classic next step  computer )

Just pointing out that copying and improving a product has a long and successful history.  MS doing it, in that they made a pretty standard console by the standard of anything past the SNES, is not some sort of unprecedented move.

Off Topic:  Beautiful machines the NeXT boxes.  They would not be all that impressive today but they made Win3.1 look truely primitive by comparison.  If you get one buy the color version.

Microsoft doesnt copy and improve, they usually copy, and not very well... All of the products they have copied have been far below the quality of who they copied, they've only come out successful because they have tons of money to waste.

Microsofts business strategy is not to copy and improve, but to copy at a far lower price and monopolize the market.

Sony isn't all about home console this generation anymore... if you haven't notice... the PSP is about to go under its THIRD redesign in less than 5 years... Sony not only have a decent precence in the home market, they also have a decent market in the handheld market. if MS really wants to "get even" they also need a handheld console.

How much money a company is able to waste?

Last time I checked, Microsoft's gaming division made money the financial year just gone.

Did Sony's?

1)Is that why SONY has lost more money this gen and continues to sell the PS3 at a loss or without a profit??

2) So basically what every successful company does?? MS FTW!!!

Another thing is that SONY copies too. PSN= XBL/2

I hope u are able to understand that equation

You got numbers Chief? Do you really think Microsoft is making any money on hardware either? We all know they dug themselves deep into the red already regarding hardward malfunctions, and they too sold (and are most likely still selling) hardware at a loss. Perhaps if you came out of your fanboy shell you'd see that.

I never said it was a bad thing to copy, I just said Microsoft sucks and at it.

It has nothing to do with the fact that Microsoft's support is better or that it is easier to develop for their system... Microsoft has teams of guys whose job it is to help developers out when they have problems... these guys may do a conference call or even fly over to physically aid the devs in implementing something.

LOL another company has an online service?  OMG Sony copiez the xbox.

It's all about the game.

Zune -> iPod. oh wait that didn't work out so well huh.
MSN -> Google. oh wait, that didn't work as well either.

If you don't fight MS and just do your own thing your fine. Netscape and the others decided to enter a fist on fight with MS trying to stay ahead. They should have just gone there own path.

To be fair about ICQ, ICQ was bought out by AOL. yeah AOL. right. AOL. Put up your hands if you like AOL.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

A brief historical retrospect:
Windows 3.1 -> Machinosh
IE -> Landscape
Windows Messenger -> ICQ
Windows Vista -> new MacOS

Copying is a succesful and non-MS exclusive strategy:

Windows 3.1 -> Machinosh->Xerox Alto
IE -> Netscape->Mosaic
Windows Messenger -> ICQ->IRC
Windows Vista -> new MacOS->Nextstep

Copying is not MS exclusive strategy but it is the most infamous strategy they are using.
