MS doing it, in that they made a pretty standard console by the standard of anything past the SNES, is not some sort of unprecedented move. Off Topic: Beautiful machines the NeXT boxes. They would not be all that impressive today but they made Win3.1 look truely primitive by comparison. If you get one buy the color version.

Microsoft doesnt copy and improve, they usually copy, and not very well... All of the products they have copied have been far below the quality of who they copied, they've only come out successful because they have tons of money to waste.
Microsofts business strategy is not to copy and improve, but to copy at a far lower price and monopolize the market.
