If Super Smash Bros has online, it will be on my list, and probably number one, meaning I really do expect it to win game of the year awards on many sites...Online play in SSBB would make it untouchable...for me anyway. They don't really give fighters many awards...

I think if SSBB has online it will out sell and outclass even Mario Galaxy in terms of sales, popularity, and reviews, but I still just have trouble ever seeing that game (as great as it is) on a game of the year list. For the random out there game I would still love to see Phantom Hourglass make it on the list and actually win.  Still though, my top pick at the moment for the game that wins GOTY is Mass Effect (and I'm only going by hype, this could all easily change by Decemeber when all these big games are finally released).

True. The reason why SSBB is scored low is because it is only good for multiplayer, in general. If they were to include an amazing storyline/plot, I could see it getting the award.

I was about to make an argument that Gears of War won even though it was mainly a multiplayer game but the single player was just really so good (even though it was short).
