I agree with IGN. It's bullshit and it won't get anywhere near the cross generational appeal of Wii sports and Wii fit.

A few thoughts.

One -- Matt has confused Definition 3 of game -- a competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance on the part of two or more persons who play according to a set of rules, usually for their own amusement or for that of spectators -- with Definition 1 of game -- an amusement or pastime: children's games. (Definitions from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/game)

Basically since you can't score and can't win, he does not like it. Since it does not have hard rock or edgy indie music, he does not like it. It is tough to comment on some of the other claims, such as music MIDI quality, but they did not seem that bad in the Nintendo videos.

I plan on getting it. I will sell multiple millions. And those who want a remake of a 20-plus year old franchise will have to realize that sometimes people want to try to do unique and different IPs.

Actually every home console version of Cars is rated HIGHER than Wii Play. Only the DS and GBA got lower review averages.

 

I thought he was talking about Wii Fit. I never really consider Wii Play as real sales, especially in context of the argument at hand which is putting a none bundled game in comparison. I'm also pretty sure there's a Spongebob game out there with around 5 million with pretty low review scores.

Some more thoughts.

1. Granted they are going for something "new" but isn't it a music game. Thats not new and it isn't even particularly well done. Ahh but Woman ( i assume by Wolfmother) is a good track. In fact not having a Gamecube and seeing Animal Crossing for the first time i thought pretty much the same way when i saw this, Animal Crossing is the Sims copy to this as GH copy.

2. Don't you wonder now ( i don't) why WS2 was just announced before this release.

Wii Fit has an 80% average on both Metacritic and Game Rankings. Not sure which Spongebob game you're talking about, but a lot of them are rated higher than Wii Play as well. As for non-bundled, I figure not bundled with the system itself. I don't see why you discount games bundled with additional hardware, otherwise you should have discounted Wii Fit as well.

1. If you think this is a Guitar Hero copy, then I have to question how you're able to see as you type your replies out.

It isn't a science I'm using. I'm just observing whether I believe it's the accessory selling the game, the game selling the accessory, or both complimenting each other. In the case of Wii Fit, I believe the accessory compliments the game nicely, as does vice versa. In the case of a controller and Wii Play I feel the accessory sells the game, as do the constant shortages of non-bundled Wiimotes(another observation, not meant to be fact). That's how I got my own copy of Wii Play. I couldn't find any Wiimote-only packages at the store, so I caved and spent the extra $10. I still haven't taken Wii Play out of the shrinkwrap after 7 months. I don't think I would do the same if I purchased Wii Fit, because the two go hand in hand.

well the prvious 2 in the series have gotten 80 on metacritic. will this live up to those previous enstallements. This is the end of the trilogy anyway

I beg to differ. Wii Sports is one of the best games for playing together. This looks like the sucks.

The difference is that simple motions give you quite nice interactions for Tennis, Bowling whatever but surely not for music instruments. Because of this Guitar Hero and Rock Band provide you with hugely expensive peripherals even for Wii.

Besides Wii Sports is only great when played in multiplayer it would be boring as hell in single-player. And excuse me but I cannot see anyone jamming together with Wii Music.

So its essentially a Wii Sports game without the two things that make Wii Sports great. Playing against each other and simple motions.

 

 I have played wii sport briefly but i think that is does not requiers any true skill ( metroid for example does require skill), on the other hand wii music seems to requiere some skill (i have only seen the videos), that to me could make it more genuinly interesting than wii sports, that does not means it more fun that wii sport but at least more interesting.
