Forums - Sony Discussion - Kaz Hirai : it's important Sony does not allow Nintendo to 'run off alone`

Kaz is better than Crazy Ken. But Ken will always be remembered as the father of Playstation

I don't remember them complaining when it was them with the lions share :p

Kaz, make up your mind. Is the PS3 a multimedia device or a gaming machine. You flip flop more often than an American politician.

Truth is, he's scared for his job. Shareholders are going to throw him out if he can't get Sony to gain solid ground.

Both. And I multimedia device CAN be a gaming machine aswell. [PC, PSP, iPhone, iTouch]

OT: Am glad SONY aims for #1 spot.

Unlike certain other companies that just want to take out another competitor.

4 ≈ One

LBP doesn't seem like a Japan-oriented game, but I could be wrong. Sony is cahnging the song, but it's all good...nintendo needs to be held accountable to ensure gamers get the best value.

Nintendo is in another Galaxy KAZ...

I have to disagree with Kaz on this. PS3 is not just about games, games, games. Games is just one of many features that makes the PS3 not only the best value ever in the history of this market, but also makes it the single greatest home entertainment box created to date. Sony never was going to let Nintendo run away with the market, and they never will. This year they got the PS3's public image were it needs to be after the rediculous hate last year made the system a product to avoid for many consumers.

The rest of this year Sony is first and formost working on profit. They know that a price cut means very little to effect sales at this point in the year, and all it really does is create greater losses. Next year PS3 will finally be at full stride, and things are going to start to change in the industry, and the world of electronics. Prices for Blu-ray will plumit next year as the format breaks into the mainstream. This along with the other price reducing advancments will finally allow Sony to come down to the $299 price point people are so desperate for.

Sony took this market from Nintendo, and they never intended to give it back. No one ever wants to give it up, but once it happens there are two choices. One is sit back get pissed and steady the same course, or two accept that you need to change and do what it takes to prove you are still the best. Nintendo took the first option after the N64 lost to PS1, so far Sony has taken the later, and they now moving beyond what they need to do to regain their thrown.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

C'mon... why do people always exclude the PS3's little sister from discussion about Sony's business strategy? Sony isn't just concentrating on home consoles, they got their hand held to take care of too you know... c'mon just LOOK at PSP... it's Sony's first attempt at it, and they took 32.1% of the hand held shares other wise would be exclusive nintendo... release a couple more Monster Hunter portables and we'll see more Playstation altogether.

If the big boss says that they "cannot allow Nintendo run off alone" they should have some counter measures in sight. And the biggest one would be arguably to lower the not really mass market suitable price.

i thik he was mainly talking about games, price cut is in 2009 now, right now its not needed.

take LBP for example theres no nintendo title that is able to match its brilliance

i predict sony will start issuing a fresh new range of casual in house titles that appeal more to a younger demografic

its just the wii is in a "buzz light year" mode, its a desirable toy to buy for your children same with the ds, as long as nintendo sell a wii, with mario kart a few dogs games and carnival party to the same wii buyer, ninty are very happy, i seriously doubt ninty will change thier gaming approach to bring it more in line with what ps360 are offering.

2009 will be very interesting to see who brings out the best games, so far end of 2008 will have sony bringing the best games

The sad part is, from reading your posts, I figured you were my nephew's age, 15. I didnt realize you're a year older than me. That's just... wow.

Sony will keep on doing as they are, it was their vanity that got them into the mess they are in this generation, why they lost Japan to Nintendo. 2009 is proving up to be an excellent year for the Wii, with lots of more "core" games and M titles coming out for it.

It really is patehtic to see someone your age making such unintelligent generalizations. Knock it off.

Ignore him. Arguing with him is like talking to 13year olds playing Halo 3. When they are playing/trolling they become all ignorant and excited.

People say that $400 is alot to spend on a console but my mother bought me a playstation even though the N64 was cheaper because that's what I wanted. That $400 could have gone a lot farther then than it would today. I guess most people just aren't thinking about inflation.

Yes, $400 (or €400 here in Europe) is a lot for a games console, especially since there are cheaper alternatives. And no, I don't care for Blu-ray or media center capabilities, I have a PC for all my media needs. I'd like to play LBP, but I don't want to pay that much for just one game.
