Highly recommend Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and its expansion, its probably one of the most addictive turn base strat out there.

If you prefer Sci-fi, I strongly recommend you give the X-Com series a try (UFO Defense is the best), they are pretty much the best old school TBS around you can get.

All these games will run on anything, even it its a 5 year old fossil ~_^

The warlord series are turnbased as far as i can remember.. they made a final installment before the series died. Same style as the ones you mention (in some aspects)

Ofcourse thers also Heroes of Might and Magic 5 which is actually quite a decent game. ...

I can't stand 5, the time it took for the enemy ai to end their turn drove me mad. That is why 3 is my favourite, the ai still took their turns faster than I can click a finger.

well, when he mentioned Age of Wonders I thought something more like HoMM than Civ and other "grand strategy" and 4X, but of course, Civ4 with BTS and the all the mods available is a no-brainer. especially Fall from Heaven 2, which to my tastes has "lost its way" but it's still the best mod available (and IMO for ANY game out there). it's very tough to list the features but it's a fantasy mod, lots of different civilizations, spell system, an agressive wild world. and there are people working on "mod mods", adding new civs to FfH and other neat stuff. and of course there are the usual Civ4 mods that just add tons of units, techs, etc but still maintain the "real world" setting. you can find everything in http://www.civfanatics.com

ya that's the bad thing about it.. i think other than the speed of the game it was good :p .. but that's just my opinion. Atleast they wen't away from the concept that 4 was. I hated 4 lol. (then again 4 did make the studio collapse)
