Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii Starwars... less WW sales than either HD console? Why?

@Groucho: Are you lazy, handycapped or just dumb?

Madden NFL 08:

PS3: 0.88 million
Wii: 0.81 million and selling a lot more weekly + no Others data.

Madden NFL 07:
PS3: 0.48 million
Wii: 0.45 million and no Others data

You should really read the post more carefully before launching the personal attack.

Lol I agree with psrock.  Where on earth did you dig up that falsehood?  "Sold the same" is pretty subjective.  Madden 07 and 08 were close to the PS3 on the Wii... and of course the Wii's installed base was much larger in both cases.  The Wii is close to the PS3 with Starwars too...  thank god for installed base?

3rd party devs are going to look at the "almost equal" raw sales and say "oh look, the Wii sells almost as much as the least popular platform of this generation, retails for less per unit, and only costs 2x as much to port to, over that least popular platform from our primary of the X360... lets move our primary dev platform there, so we can double our dev costs and make the HD versions crappy ports."

I think you're missing the point of my questions.

The thing is that we're talking about a bad game (bad in all the versions: PS3, XBOX360, Wii, DS and PSP) with just 3 weeks in the market. Is that a good example for that kind of conclusions? I understand the point with Madden and FIFA because those games have been proved in the past and we know the market for EA Sports games, but not even the StarWars name can make this thing good for predictions. And BTW here's a interview with the devs (at least they know that they didn't do a great job with The Force Unleash)

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

I believe the HD versions sell more because first, they look better and second, the Wii version doesn't have 1:1 controls.
That said, I do expect the Wii version to keep selling for a longer time than the HD versions. Maybe it won't surpass them, but I think the final totals will be close.

Anyway, the game's not too great on any of the platforms.

THE GAME BLOWS. THIS MEANS WII OWNERS ARE SMART.

Star Wars fans buy Star Wars games no matter what. Well unless it really sucks.

The reason why it doesnt sell good on the wii is because there is a $hit load of casual wii buyers who buy the system for bowling and tennis (Wii play and Wii sports).

noname already gave a good explanation of why demographics might favor 360 and PS3 on this case. I don't really have anything to add on that.

In a larger sense though, why is it that every multiplatform game suddenly turns into a "test" of Wii sales? If the PS3 throws out a stinker on a multiplatform game (like, say, Guitar Hero III: 3.46m [360], 3.31m [Wii], 1.59m [PS3]) I don't see everyone screaming that developers should pull support from the platform.

Some games just sell better on different platforms. There's really nothing more to say than that. We have plenty of examples of multi-platform games where all three consoles ended up having the lead in sales.

My Website

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

This thread is a clusterfuck waiting to happen and sounds like waaaambulance trying to dismiss the Wii install base to alleviate the pain of butthurt fanboys since the Wii is still destroying the PS3 and 360 in hardware sales.

I think it's pretty obvious why the Wii version is selling slightly less. It has an expanded audience and thus those people aren't necessarily interested in a big budget mediocre Star Wars hack 'n slash. I'm actually surprised it's keeping up this well with the HD versions; to me it looked significantly worse and some of the extras seemed like a halfassed way to offset it being a PS2 port. But the oddest this is, why would anyone pick this game to whine about? It's enjoying phenomenal sales and will without a doubt pass the 1 million mark on all 3 current gen consoles, so where exactly does the complaining start? The gap between the Wii version isn't anywhere near the size of the grand canyon that separates the PS3 version of GH3 from Wii60 and yet I don't see anyone dailing whine one one to scrutinize the PS3's install base.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

The nintendo version sucks compared to the PS3 and 360 versions. In fact almost all the Wii games suck except for a few titles. this console is a one trick pony.
