Standalone Gears 2 will beat Resistance 2 and Fable 2 will beat LBP.

Either of those situations could look reversed because of Sony's huge levels of bundling that has been applied to EVERY SINGLE high selling title on the console except Assassin's Creed and CoD4.

You don't have to say it... you can just put "starcraft's opinion here"

We know you are going to say the 360 exclusives are better then the PS3 exclusives...

Duh

Nope.  Just that without artificial assistance the titles with the more established history and bigger userbase will sell better.

Kind of like these bundles?

A Gears bundle in a tiny market from 4 months AFTER the game launched is the equivelant of an at-launch EUROPEAN LBP bundle?

And a limited edition Halo 3 console that DOESNT INCLUDE THE GAME IN THE OFFICIAL VERSION is somehow the equivelant of a Sony endorsed starter pack mandating that every PS3 sold in PAL for a few months included Resistance?

Do I really need to list all of the MS bundles?  Is Europe a tiny market?  Sony tends to bundle their big games on a limited basis and in select markets.  These bundles have very little impact on the overall sales of a game.

http://www.myxbox360.com/news/news/Gears_of_War_Bundle_Announced_968

Gamers will think Christmas has come early as Microsoft announced a special ‘Gears of War’ retail offer available from Friday 24th November (while stocks last). Gamers can get a copy of the most-anticipated video game of 2006, ‘Gears of War’ and an Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system to play it on, all for £299.99 ERP.

“This is a perfect Christmas gift for gamers in Europe,” said Richard Teversham, Director Platform & Marketing, Home and Entertainment Division EMEA. “With this great offer, we’re giving gamers the best console on the market, with one of the most-anticipated games this year, all for a fantastic price”.

One thing overlooked... Fallout 3

I think the game of the year is going to be Fallout 3. That releases 1 week after Fable 2. It will steal sales from the RPG fans.

One of the best comments in this thread in my opinion.

Fallout 3 and Fable 2 are unlikely to be bought within 1 week of each if you are in a full time job.  But then 2-3 weeks after Fable2 GeoW2 is released.

Fallout3 *could* outsell Fable2 on the 360 alone and it *will* outsell Fable2 if you combine 360 and PS3 sales, the review scores are going to be a big factor here due to the fact rpg's tend to appeal to the hardcore market. It makes the decision of sending Fable2 to review without a massive feature (online coop) all the more rediculous.

As long as both Fable2 and Fallout3 get solid review scores i will be buying them both for sure, just not necessarily in the same year...i might leave the weaker one for the January drought.

As for my predictions on the sales figures / other comments:

- Anyone thinking Res2 will outsell GeoW2 is an idiot, greater install base + greater sales of intial title = win

- If all of these sell over 2 million then it is a great achievement for all games, "success" is relative to the cost of the game, the more it cost the more sales it needs.

In 2008 sales:

- Fable2 (1.5m) > LBP (who knows?!)

- GeoW2 (4.5m) > Res2 (2.5m)

In Lifetime Sales

- LBP (5m?) > Fable2 (3m)

- GeoW2 (7m) > Res2 (4m)

"If you think so than you are wrong. First Resistance & Motorstorm bundle was introduced in around 5th month of PS3 life in Europe. It didn't last that long and didn't move too many games. Going by VGChartz Resistance didn't sell more than 150k in that timeframe.

The second bundle was introduced with 40GB debut as a fire sale bundle for 60 GB model. Bundle costed 500 euro and was quite successful but didn't last too long as 60GB stock depleted quickly. It didn't sell more than 200k.

You can look how Resistance sold here:
http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=Others&game1=Resistance%3A+Fall+of+Man+-+PS3®2=Others&game2=®3=Others&game3=&weeks=60&weekly=1

Basically official Resistance bundles didn't contribute more than 10% of Res sales WW."

I think all of these games are looking better than Fallout 3. To me, it just seems very bland and pointless and not varied at all. Just the idea of an RPG with guns puts me off. I could be wrong, but I'm going to say Gears 2 will sell the most of these five games, followed by Fallout 3 only because it is multiplat, followed by R2, then LBP, then Fable II.

Also, there's the fact that Fallout 3 on PS3 commits the deadly sin of having no trophies. This will probably cause on-the-fence people to not buy it, or at least wait until trophies are introduced.

It's so stupid of Bethesda, though. Why put so much effort into a game, and not spend a couple of hours that could potentially get you another million sales? It's like how DLC for Oblivion was never made available on PSN- I guess Bethesda just prefers Microsoft.

Sony needs money to buy these people back.

The only people on the fence are people with both consoles. PS3 fans have no other choice at the moment. I personally didn’t get it for either console; I got it for the PC, as I did with FarCry 2.

I have preordered all 6 of these games (lbp, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Gears 2, Farcry 2, and Resistance 2). It’s going to be an expensive 8 days :p
