I've had similar experiences too, albeit with frat boys and baseball players.

I think that with sports being the biggest pusher of HDTV's in America that it could just be one of the factors.

The problem I have with that is that the PS2 version of a game often outsells the Wii version as well. So while that may be a factor in why the HD consoles move so many units, it doesn't necessarily explain why the Wii moves comparatively few. No, I still favor the reasons I outlined above.

Consider this: despite having only a fraction of the sales it used to, the PS2 version remains quite front-loaded, displaying a similar pattern to the HD console versions' sales. This tells me that the PS2's version is built of many of the same people as the HD versions, an audience who does not yet favor the Wii. But I admit that the data are open to other interpretations as well.

Despite having the lowest opening week sales for Tiger Wood PGA Tour 09, the Wii version managed to have greater total sales by the 5th week than either the 360 or PS3 version

The EA American Football game sold better on the 360, but the Wii's sales have dropped off much slower than the PS360 - Wiiversion should catch PS3 version before all is said and done. Expecting any console to outsell the 360 in American Football sales is ludicrous - if the 360 was a (pseudo)sport, it would be American Football

Actually they're doing pretty good. I expect the 09 versions of Fifa, Madden, Pro Evo and Tiger Woods to all hit 1 million life time sales.

Its cause most casual sports gamers see the Wii as the kiddy system.

What these guys said plus Zucas' point about lack of sports brand recognition on Nintendo platforms.  Nintendo has generally been the second platform for sports games going back to Genesis days.

Again, I'm confident all these games will see their 09 versions top one million sales, which is pretty good sales, even if not the same as the other guys.

Try playing Madden 09 for Wii and then 360. Being a traditional madden player, I hate the Wii version. I preferred Madden 07 for PS2.

People are still used to the setup of a gamepad, people keep buying slightly improved sports games because they like how the game works.


And yes, people like to play a game and almost feel like they're watching it.
