Forums - Sales Discussion - My little experience in a EB games

In short I totally agree, EB employees have been so biased in all my experiences. There's always the 360 kid and the PS3 kid and both rag on Nintendo. Plus the fact that they always try and push a used game on me because I'll save a whopping $2 then try and sell me a service plan for $5 && a million other reasons is why I don't even like setting foot in that store.

OP;- I don't think the dude you was talking to at EB will keep his job for very long with that amazing lack of knowladge, of which is really what he is employed to have. Hope the other dude he argued with was management. That way he will be out even quicker!

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

There seems to be about a million reasons not to patronize Gamestop (they burned me pretty badly earlier this year), but I've found one Gamestop in my area where the manager really seems to value the customers.  Wonder how long they'll keep the guy around...

Keep Stayin' Tru, Lu.

Hahahaha maybe he was the son of the manager so that's the reason why he is still employed.

I would think that arguing with another employee in front of customers, especially when showing his ignorance of the industry that employs him should be more than enough to see him fired. If not, with an attitude like that, i give him a week at best.

I do think this guy sounds like an uninformed idiot, but to his defense-

Lots of these employees live in their own little isolated one store bubble and have no reference for the rest of the market. I would be willing to bet part of this is the individual stores focus.

For example, I bet the sales of PS3 are better at Best buy than at EB/Gamestop due to it's Blueray player. So a clerk there might tell you the PS3 sells the best and is the best choice. Go to a Toy R Us and I bet the clerk will tell you Wii sells the most. etc..

Finally, 360 gamers are probabley more vocal about games than Wii players. So for example, the average 360 player is more likely to have a conversation with the clerk about games they are buying/playing than the soccer mom buying a Wii game for her kids; which leads to the perception that the 360 is liked more/popular.

I have four Gamestops within five miles of my house.

I prefer to go to the one where I have known the manager for over a decade. I trust his judgment on games. Also, the new manager of another store in town also has a Wii and seems to be able to give good advice.

As for others, I tend to talk with the managers/assistant managers/clerks. You can quickly learn what they like, what they have, and what their biases are. You can then use that information -- and know whether or not they are worth listening to.

But it is true that most part-time, lower-level clerks are not worth listening to because they are ill-informed and/or biased. Also, ill-informed may be they only see the trends in their stores, which given their demographic is very different than the overall market ... so without additional research, they would not know any more.

The best thing about Gamestop is that you can return a used game within seven days ... no questions asked. That means if you are unsure, you can check out a game risk-free.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Mike, you know a guy who managed a Gamestop for over a decade? That is so sad! Invite that poor chap to your house and give him a bowl of soup. From what I'm told, those guys don't get paid crap!

LOL but that doesnt explain why they suck so much!
