Senate passes bailout

Plan to buy $700B in troubled assets wins OK. Backers hope add-ons will yield more yes-votes in House.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The Senate on Wednesday night passed a sweeping and controversial financial bailout similar in key ways to one rejected by the House just two days earlier.

The measure was passed by a vote of 74 to 25 after more than three hours of floor debate in the Senate. Presidential candidates Sens. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, and John McCain, R-Arizona, voted in favor.

BOOO, BOO I SAY.  I hope the House shuts it down again.

The interesting thing about this bill is that, after months of hearing all of the presidential candidates claim that they are against pork-laden bills, McCain, Obama and Biden all voted for one of the most bloated pork-laden bills that has been proposed in decades.

and the stocks are down!

I agree with Rendo. The House should knock the wind out of this bill again and send it packing!

I heard Barney Frank supporting the bill on NPR this morning. The instant I heard that, I knew the bill was a bad idea. No, my opposition is more intricate than that. I hope the House does not pass this bill. I know of at least one congressperson who will not be voting for it.

Wooden arrow manufacturers need their subsidies. We can't lose that booming market to overseas competition, you know. Too dangerous.

And.... in other news. John McCain has lost his presendential bid.

Video was watched. It does not surprise me. I never was for this bill, at first I wasn't sure, but now I am definitely against it.

A Senator who voted against it said, "Anytime someone is in such a desperate hurry to get something done, I am always a little reluctant to be in the same hurry. It usually turns out that it is not a good idea."

I agree with him. Now I want this bill to fail miserably in the House.

wonder how the Chinese and the Saudis are threatening Bush and the Congress.
If you don't bail the banks out then . . . oil prices will go down? Saudis would hate that. How can the Chinese threaten our government?
