Forums - Sales Discussion - Moore: Sony's Business 'Crumbling' in Japan

I think, FOR ME, it is because some website announced 300 k pre order that is quite important and beause before the game sold quite well.

"Wii gold" game ??????????

- do you mean "gold" ?
then I dont know what u are saying ...

- do you mean "golf" ?
then, sorry, It is not an argument.
It is like if you saied that any "car game" on the Wii, can out-compete GT5 for example ...

White Knight Story is s JRPG ,if its good japanese will care about .Specially as it is being developed by Level 5 ,that team has a lot of predicamente there .

Japanese definitely care about Gran Turismo .Saying otherwise is being ignorant .

And MGS4 may not be uber-big in Japan ,but its still a big franchise and can sell more that half a million .The PSP version has sold so far 360 000 units so go figure what can a real next gen MGS sell .

Plus there are many other games as Dynasty Warrios ,Disgaea 3 that have been announced the last days and will do their thing .

Or, its more like a car game that doesn't support a steering wheel is less desirable then one that does... I mean, its entirely possible to play a classic golf game on the wii (with non-waggle controls)... but the added Golf Club-like nature of the wiimote adds a lot to the game. That is, in my mind, why (if all else except graphics are equal) a wii golf game would be more popular than a ps3 golf game. It's the added gameplay options, you see. Choice and all that.

Please, PLEASE do NOT feed the trolls.

1) WiiFit will outsell the pokemans.
Current Status: 2009.01.10 70k till PKMN Yellow (Passed: Emerald, Crystal, FR/LG)

My point is just that the Japanese seem to love the idea of controls that mimic in game actions, and it seems that a golf swing would translate exceedingly well to a wii-mote.

Handhelds are causing a lot of disruption with respect to home console sales.
Even the mighty ps2 is having pathetic s/w sales, meanwhile Handhelds get decent s/w numbers and show stronger legs on the chart.

I agree with peter moore, Sony needs to be worried about ps3 sales, nintendo is taking over japan. Sony is losing japan, they need a price cut on that ps3.

I don't think a price cut would do it. They need some games, and a lot of them.Sony needs a long plan for how they should retake the trone.

The japanese wont pay 500 buks for anything even if it does have FF13 or Naruto as exclusive games. A price cut "WILL" sell units they need a price cut.

I wonder how sony will pull off hot shots golf 5 on the ps3 using the six axis?

Well I don't think they are going to have people swinging their PS3 controllers around like golf clubs, and anything short of that would seem gimicky to me at first glance.  Granted I would have to try the game to speak to that point with any authority, but I doubt I will be spending aproximately $600 (60GB + HSG + tax) just to play a golf game on the PS3.

>>I don't think anyone expected the 360 to be anything but number three in Japan as far as the home consoles go, but Sony has been dominant for two gens over there, and to have them fall so far, so fast, has been a surprise, the PS3 is not selling even remotely well only doing about twice as many sales as the 360, and will likely never be able to catch up to the Wii in Japan, this is very damaging to the PS3's chances since it isn't doing that well in NA or Europe either.<<

What you are saying is totally true, but the angle I find missing in this overall story is that the 360 has been "punched in the gut" just as hard by the Wii (worldwide). The only difference is the XBOX brand has significantly less of a distance to fall. {smiley}

Oh, no doubt, the Wii has basically shocked the gaming world with its success, but like you said MS has never been in first place in the console market, I think MS would be happy as long as Sony ends up in third even if they lose to Ninty, part of the reason MS got into the market was to protect itself from Sony, I think MS just wants Sony to lose, and doesn't care if it loses to Ninty.

I see what you are saying, and I think it fits well in what MS' original intention was in the market:  a defensive move against SONY (who were alluding to be an alternative to the PC).

My question, based on that, is whether or not MS feels it's necessary to stay in the console business with SONY effectively neutralized regardless of Microsoft's efforts?

I think they'll leave only once Sony leaves, they don't want to risk Sony rising again

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

And MS 360 business is so great that he left them, ohh the irony.
