Forums - Sony Discussion - New Slimmer PSP to replace old design

http://psp.ign.com/articles/804/804905p1.html?RSSwhen2007-07-13_155700

"The newly designed PSP will replace the original PSP design starting in September with the $169.99 PSP Core Pack and the $199.99 Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack."

The first half of the article talks about the phasing out of the 60gb PS3, and only the last couple paragraphs talk about the PSP.

Will this affect sales until September? If I wanted a PSP, I'd definitely wait for the new redesign. Double the battery life, double the RAM, slimmer, faster load times, etc. If someone can exploit the 3.6 Firmware it will ship with, I'll consider upgrading.

I just wish it looked more different, I was very dissapointed.

I'm going to buy this though, I sold my old one because of games shortage, however I want the Harvest Moon and Ridge Racer 2 (which is now in the bargain bin)

Boring. I got a PSP as a gift and I have no intention of getting a new one.

By making it slimmer, I wouldn't call it a "New Redesign". And making it white with a Darth Vader tattoo on the back is not redesign either. :P

Double the RAM??? How is that going to work. That would have no effect for commercial gmae developers, the only people are gonna support this new RAM, are the people Sony want to scare off.... the hackers.

I believe doubling the RAM helps in a couple areas. It could allow more game data to cache, thus eliminating some load times. It could increase the buffer for the web browser so you get less "Out of Memory" errors when browsing. And it could make hacking better lol

Delusional, it is definitely a redesign. The internals are being revamped, they are adding functionality and reducing weight/materials, and less power consumption, as well. It's definitely not the same PSP, it just has a similar shell. This model you can even charge when you hook up the USB to your PC, as well as have a direct hook up to a TV to play or watch UMDs on a bigger screen.

I'd call it a modification with upgrades to the existing. But redesign should take into account the actual design on the outside. otherwise it's too hard to market it as "redesign" to the general public who doesn't read all the spec. :P

Hmm, from the looks of it the redesign is still going to have the same battery life. I was somewhat interested in the PSP after the redesign announcement, but if that's the case I'll pass.

Though I haven't had my hands on one, I'm guessing it is visibly slimmer and lighter, and it also carries the extra ports for viewing on a different screen. You also can't use the original PSP remote with this redesign. They also moved the WLAN switch.

So, they made small revisions to the shell of the PSP. But, I will agree, I was hoping for a newer look. This is a lot closer to the original than I like.

twesterm - I believe it's supposed to have longer battery life, up to 10hrs. Let me see if I can drag up the article.
